Day 28: Mile 386.1 - 403 (excluding the trail closure) Another day of trail obstacles! During the first 4 miles I encountered snow - hard, icy, and sloped. It was after completing it, that I again learned that many other hikers were continuing to road walk around this section. I can see why! At one point, there was (what I determined to be) an impassable mass of snow. It was a large bulge of hard snow that had no safe place to cross - I could go above it to go around, but if I slipped, I would be on that patch of snow. I chose to go below it, and worked my way down ~40' through the steep incline's loose dirt and rock to a section of the trail I saw below. A small section of the trail is closed through here due to an endangered species' habitat, and Tom drove me to a connector trail to bypass the closure. Where the connector trail met the PCT, I faced additional challenges - two wide water crossings. The first, I mistakenly chose to scoot across a very splintery log 🤦🏼♀️ I just get too nervous to walk across them! Embarked on an epic adventure to conquer the Tunari Peak (5,000m above sea level) with my amazing family by my side! 🏔 Despite not reaching the summit, the journey was nothing short of incredible. Departed from Tiquipaya at 6:30 am, driving to base camp as the sun rose, painting the sky with vibrant hues. While some of our group reached the peak, we savored the awe-inspiring views, the cool mountain breeze, and the crisp, refreshing air. Already planning our next attempt to conquer this majestic peak! 😊 On the way down, we treated ourselves to an unforgettable meal at Don Jaime Restaurant, where we indulged in delicious fish. And let’s not forget the delightful surprises on our hike up – spotting alpacas grazing peacefully, gazing at the crystal-clear blue lakes, and marveling at the bright, close moon lighting our path. So grateful to share this experience with my husband and our three kids. Wet, wild, and windy! Now that's my kind of weekend 😁⛺️ A Peak District wild camp with @chrissyraider was just what I needed to get me out of my head and the weird, anxious, lonely place it had gone recently. Despite the less-than-ideal weather forecast we headed out into my favourite part of the U.K. for a night in a gorgeous space, sharing a sheltered nook with a mummy sheep and her tiny lamb. My new (second hand) tent got its first outing and it's brilliant! A dry Saturday afternoon and evening meant plenty of time to take it slow up to the camp spot and set up, before the wind and rain arrived around 3am. A wet pack down is never ideal but we cracked it and plodded slowly back, with plenty of laughs along the way. Best way to finish? My last solo trip out in the van was up over the East side of Kinder. I parked up overnight just outside of Hathersage and was greeted by a clear and frosty sky in the morning 🥶. 📍Storm King Mountain, NY What a spectacular day! The weather was perfect for a long day hike. I've never been here before but this has become one of my favorites! It was pretty strenuous but the views and every climb up was worth it. I also watched a live war cannon demonstration and caught a mama Bald Eagle in her nest. Vandredag 9. Viana - Navarrette Blev til 24,8 km i sol sol og mere sol 🥵☀️🤗 Dejlig dag igen idag - dog meget asfalt - og langt til og fra den storby jeg sku igennem idag, Logroño og en slags parkområde hvor mange af de lokale er. Men også flotte passager af natur og vinmarker 🤗 Gik de første par timer solo, efter 10 km kom jeg til Logroño spiste morgenmad, og mødte så Raye som også sku spise morgenmad, så jeg tog en kop kaffe mere 🙂 Og ja vi slentrede lidt rundt og ud af byen (en stor by) i 1,5 time. Vi fulgtes ad det meste af dagen og snakkede lidt om livet, og vi mødte Steffan fra Horsens som jeg mødte for nogle dage siden - hyggeligt! Efter dagens hike blev det til en dejlig kold øl i godt selskab med Steffan, Raye og Lindsey som er ny for mig. Fedt Albergue, og en skøn dag! 🥰 Idag har jeg også forladt Navarra regionen og gået ind i La Rioja regionen. The first time I completed the Fisherfield round, following the usual route from Shenavall bothy, the hours at altitude elapsed in a smothering murk. I can’t quite decide in retrospect whether it was a consequence of my vision being clouded by the, well cloud, or my recalcitrant brain simply choosing not to retain the detail, but when I summited three of the peaks for the second time in full visibility, I could recall nothing familiar about the terrain. Despite a hankering to have another go at the classic circuit, the urge to explore routes less travelled is now more compelling. And so it was that I found myself with @the_victorian_mountaineer and @alternative_ascents under an inky sky on the long approach along the Cape Wrath Trail to base camp at Lochan Fhada - sandwiched between Slioch and the southern Fisherfields, a supreme wilderness. After a brutally cold night under canvas, we continued on the Cape Wrath Trail, peeling off at Loch an Nid and climbing the broad quartzite slabs that characterise the eastern face of Sgùrr Bàn. From the summit, a tricky boulder field had to be negotiated before we could pick up the walkers’ path, a steep descent on loose ground to the col with Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair mirrored in the strenuous ascent to its apex. Beinn Tarsuinn was an easy gain by comparison and it was from there that we returned to the beallach and Lochan Fhada, dismantling tents and making our way back on weary feet to Kinlochewe, spirits however reanimated at the prospect of a hot shower and warm bed at Torridon Youth Hostel. #munros #munrobagging #walkhighlands #hillwalkingscotland #womenwhohike #scotlandexplore #scottishhighlands #mountaineeringscotland #hikescotland #mountainlover
A few weeks back I visited Redwoods National Park, a new park on my list! After two failed attempts to visit other National Parks on that specific roadtrip it felt surreal to actually make it to one of them. I’ve always been more of a mountain kind of girl but this National Park surprised me in its beauty and how spread out it was! The trees were so big!! Day 2 on the West Highland Way, Garadhban Forest to somewhere between Rowardennan and Inversnaid, 17.5 miles. A day of big energy and big views. Awoke to a clear, calm sunrise and a surprising amount of runners speeding past my hiding place. It’s the Highland Fling 53 mile ultra today, and I shared their route up and over Conic hill, cheering everyone as they passed me and trying to keep out of their way! The energy was incredible and the supporters were even cheering me on and ringing their cowbells for the ‘walker’. It had me laughing all the way, which was good because Conic Hill was tough. But, suddenly, the most incredible views of Loch Lomond below opened up. This section of the loch walk was wonderful, sun dappled woods and loch side beaches. I stopped whenever I wanted and took in the views. It was surprisingly hilly in places, and after a welcome pitstop pint at Rowardennan meeting some more lovely walkers, I headed off to the woods again. I found a camp spot on a mossy floor overlooking the loch with a wee waterfall next to me and the water was sweet and delicious. Die Schwäbische Alb hat uns 2022 auf dem Albschäferweg schon überzeugt. Damals waren wir Ende Oktober / Anfang November unterwegs und da blieben nicht mehr viele Regionen für eine Mehrtagestour. Und jetzt, nach 2 Wochen grauem Dauerregen, im blühenden Frühling wieder hier zu sein, ist echt traumhaft 🥰 • Wir haben auf der Rundtour um den schnuckeligen Ort Blaubeuren echt einige lokale Highlights mitgenommen, die sich auf jeden Fall lohnen, wenn man in der Gegend ist: • 1️⃣ Ruckenkreuz auf dem 584m hohen Rucken. Es ist mit 8,40m echt beeindruckend hoch und der Blick auf Blaubeuren lohnt sich total. 2️⃣ Brillenhöhle (leider abgesperrt) und das Felslabyrinth mit der Felsformation der "Küssenden Sau" 🐽 3️⃣ Blaufels (647m) mit Blick aufs Kloster direkt überhalb des Blautopfs. • Die Runde ist beliebig erweiterbar um das Rusenschloss, die Ruine Günzelburg und den Blautopf ✌️ • Warst du schon mal auf der Schwäbischen Alb?
