Week 3 - This week was a bit different. I got back into art through a sketchbook challenge. Day 1 was to collage the first line of a novel ("Back When We Were Grownups" by Anne Tyler - Once upon a time, there was a woman who discovered she had turned into the wrong woman.) Day 2 was to create swatches of water colors. Day 3 and 4 were centered around faces. Day 3 was a 5 minute portrait, and Day 4 was to create simple faces. For day 3, i also created swatches of the marker set that i was using, and then my colored pencils set. Finally, Day 5 was a drawing g of a bicycle with a basket of flowers. I used pencil and color pencils for the bicycle, and then I used water color for the basket of flowers. The final picture I've included is a collage/painting that I started back in August at one of the New Braunfel Art League Art Play events. I finally finished and can not wait to see what the absolute final product looks like. It was painted on a 16x19 canvas, then used mod podge to glue down painted book pages, felt, magazine paper (notebook), and a googly eye. I also used hot glue to glue down the claws. When all is done, I sealed the painting with mod podge. There are some paintings that when painted is just a struggle to get right or your mind is not in it. This is the opposite, this was a touching moment when we took our grandkids for a walk, older brother is a very sweet caring and sensitive boy always looking after his younger brother, I caught that moment. I knew I wanted to paint it and when I did, it flowed. Why because of my connection to it, the feelings should be there though most of the time there are none painting a building or such. I love this painting through and through, it goes to a local art show in New Braunfels, I changed the color of one boys shirt to fit the show, but my price will be high as I want to keep it! We artists feel rejection so often, but today was not my day for that. Instead my artwork was juried at the New Braunfels Art League (@newbraunfelsartleague ) to becoming a displaying member and I received a perfect score - which means I got in! 5 years ago I wanted to join this art group, but did not have the time and my artwork was not at the level I wanted it to be to display. Things sure have changed for me.
