Last days to see Andrea Bergen's featured solo show, "The Last Pit Stop," IRL at Transmission Gallery in Oakland, through Saturday, May 4th. It's hard to imagine the number of hand cut pieces of paper that go into the snack-stealing pigeons and Bergen's impressive cut paper collage, "The Good, The Bad and the Buccee's," installed on one side of the gallery and mirrored in vinyl installation on the opposite wall. Pint Size 2 @transmissiongallery in Oakland opened last Saturday. The show exhibits all small scale artworks no larger than 7” x 7” x 7”. I enjoyed meeting many artists. My bronze, Tender Gourd, was inspired by the quiet seeping away of energy. I poured the bronze in my own backyard. There was a great turnout at the opening. MY ART PRACTICE is an exploration of identity, geography and meaning in materials. We asked Sara Post to share a little about inspiration and making: “…seeing the timeless through the specific” Winton Marsalis recently describing Paul Simon’s songs, this strikes me as exactly what I am looking for in art, what I find always inspiring. It’s a quality most often seen in the work of the poet-artists—among them Etel Adnan with her deceptively simple landscape paintings and Richard Tuttle with his use of focused line in drawing. These artists don’t spell things out, but rather use space and air to invite the viewer to imagine. For me, this work opens windows into the continuous present.
