Hi everyone it’s me! I just want to thank everyone because you are still here, and for the people that just joined my page welcome! I want you to get to know me more so I want to share a few Puertorican things about me * I was born and raised in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. I am so proud to be puertorriqueña and to be born on a tiny island. We used to go to the beach every single weekend when I was a kid, I miss that. * I learned English as an adult. When I came to the United States I was so terrified to talk to anyone to the point that I spent a whole week at my mom's house (Orlando) to let reality sink in. I have been living in the USA for 9 years and feel that I am still learning English and yes I do have an accent and I am proud of that. * When I first start making American friends it was hard not to greet people with a kiss on the cheek. In the Puerto Rican culture we greet people by kissing them on their cheeks and it was such a culture shock for me at the beginning. * Many people think that because Puerto Rico is United States territory is the same but is not at all our cultures are very different from American culture, for example, we don’t watch football, we watch boxing, basketball, and baseball of course there is always exceptions but for the most majority. We are discarded pumpkins. Insides hollowed by hands who carved out eyes they did not wish to see, and a mouth they wished not to speak. Our seeds were not allowed to grow grinded to pulp and washed out in last season's snow. After the pain of being cut with knives, gentle fingers felt inside. It felt as if the songs of heaven had broken through their skyward prison. In a touch that made us listen. A hope that after being born some love and gentleness could heal what had been torn. A candle placed inside our shells. Lanterns we became, grinning bright. For one night only we were all that is light. God or Gods forgive our nativity, we thought this happiness our right.
