Dark matter comprises 26.8 % of the remaining mass and energy in the universe. It is called dark matter since it does not emit or absorb radiation. It’s effects are inferred by observed gravitational effects. Dark matter is not accounted for by the Standard Model of Particle Physics. The hunt for dark matter in the laboratory is actively being pursued by physicists. One type of dark matter hypothesised are WIMPS (weakly interacting massive particles). Let’s see the fundamental equations related to fields associated with different spins. In particular: the Klein Gordon field is associated with spin 0, the Dirac field is associated with spin 1/2, the Proca field is associated with spin 1, the Rarita-Schwinger field is associated with spin 3/2, the Pauli-Fierz field is associated with spin 2. A voltage doubler is an electronic circuit that produces an output voltage that is double the input voltage. It is a voltage multiplier with a voltage multiplication factor equal to 2. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize (Physics in 1903) and the first person, men included, who won two Nobel Prizes. Her second was awarded in 1911 for chemistry.   She discovered the radioactive elements Radium and Polonium. She coined the phase RADIOACTIVITY, discovered radioactive treatments for cancer and created portable X-ray machines to administer to the French soldiers in WW1. Кожен студент, який не просто отримав «відмінно» з «опору матеріалів», а справді знає його на відмінно, пам’ятає формулу великого Ейлера та вміє нею користуватися. Для решти повідомимо, що ця залежність пов’язує критичну силу стиснення стрижня з його розмірами, формою перерізу та жорсткістю його матеріалу. Однак що таке ця «критична сила»? Якщо відкрити визнану в усьому світі класику – Тимошенка, то можна дізнатися, що це сила, при наближенні до якої прогин стрижня починає необмежено зростати. З ним готовий посперечатися товариш Корольова Феодосьєв, який стверджував, що це найменша сила, за якої стрижень зберігатиме криволінійну форму, що виникла від його стиснення. Можна знайти ще багато близьких, але різних формулювань, та влаштувати диспут, яке з них найбільш вірне. Але чому б не отримати відповідь на це запитання практично? Саме цим зайнялися слухачі наших курсів «Airframe Structural Design & Sizing», тож зараз ми розповімо, що в них із цього вийшло! Для початку сформулюємо завдання, яке вони перед собою поставили. Було вирішено стискати прямі алюмінієві та сталеві стрижні призматичної форми, одночасно вимірюючи, як змінюється їхній прогин залежно від стискаючої сили. Мета: дізнатися, яким реальним прогинам відповідатимуть величини критичної сили, що обчислені для цих зразків за Ейлером. Dimensions!! A fourth spatial dimension refers to an additional direction or axis in space, beyond the three spatial dimensions we’re familiar with: length, width, and height. In other words, if we were able to move in this fourth dimension, we’d move in a direction that’s entirely perpendicular to the other three dimensions we know. Humans have a hard time comprehending the fourth spatial dimension because our brains and senses evolved in a three-dimensional world. Required reading No.22 How To Wreck A Nice Beach - Dave Tompkins 2011 - Stop Smiling Media, Chicago | Melville House Publishing, Brooklyn First Paperback Printing This is a history of the vocoder. A fantastic invention originally intended to encode speech for confidential communication co-opted by the music peeps to make amazing music. Laurie Anderson used it to great effect on ‘O Superman’, a song I fell in absolute love with in 1981. The title of the book comes from an early attempt at encoding speech with a vocoder. The phrase ‘how to recognise speech’ was translated as ‘how to wreck a nice beach’. This isn’t the best written book (I feel the writing gets in the way of the story), but it does contain a lot of interesting stuff…

Dark matter comprises 26.8 % of the remaining mass and energy in the universe. It is called dark matter since it does not emit or absorb radiation. It’s effects are inferred by observed gravitational effects. Dark matter is not accounted for by the Standard Model of Particle Physics. The hunt for dark matter in the laboratory is actively being pursued by physicists. One type of dark matter hypothesised are WIMPS (weakly interacting massive particles).
