Called “Oumuamua”, it was discovered on October 19, 2017 and was the first confirmed detection of an interstellar object passing through our solar system. Scientists suggested that it could be an asteroid, a comet, or even a fragment of a disintegrated interstellar object but since it passed through the inner solar system at such a high speed, it made it difficult for astronomers to study further. 📸 NASA #astronomy #space #universe #oumuamua #facts #astronomylover #didyouknow #mindblowing #interstellar

🔭🌀 Demystifying Black Bounces: A Simple Guide to Gravity's Surprises 🌌🔍 In a recent study by Hadi and Naderi, scientists looked at how gravitational waves interact with black bounces, specifically focusing on two types of solutions called the Simpson-Visser and Bardeen-Type black bounce solutions, and the Einstein-Dirac-Maxwell traversable wormhole (TWH) solution. Gravitational waves are ripples in spacetime caused by the movement of massive objects, like stars or black holes. One of the key parts of the study was investigating how gravitational waves affect nearby paths through space, known as geodesics. This study looked at how these paths might deviate or change due to the influence of a gravitational wave. They found that when a gravitational wave pulse is present, it causes noticeable changes in the paths of nearby objects moving through space (geodesics). This effect is seen in all three solutions studied. For example, in the Simpson-Visser solution, as the magnetic charge increases, the differences in the paths of nearby objects decrease for one component and increase for another, showing a memory effect related to displacement. Similarly, in the Bardeen-Type Black Bounce and Traversable Wormhole solutions, changes in the paths of nearby objects also occur with increasing magnetic charge, indicating memory effects related to displacement and velocity. Understanding black bounces and how they interact with gravitational waves could have big implications for our understanding of the universe. For example, detecting the presence of objects like wormholes through the effects of gravitational waves could open up new possibilities for space travel and exploration. Reference: H. Hadi, R. M97 (NGC 3587), also known as the Owl Nebula, is a popular target among astrophotography enthusiasts, especially when paired with the nearby galaxy NGC 3556. It lies in the constellation Ursa Major, approximately 2030 light-years away from Earth, with an apparent magnitude of 9.9. It was discovered by the French astronomer Pierre Méchain on February 16, 1781. Méchain, a colleague of Charles Messier, informed Messier of the discovery, and the nebula was subsequently observed by Messier himself a few weeks later. However, it owes its name to another astronomer, William Parsons, who sketched it in 1848 and described it as resembling the head of an owl. Research from the late 1990s indicates the presence of a giant red halo extending around its inner shells, while amateur long-exposure images show a glow around M97 in the OIII band. I'll be exploring this aspect as well as its spectrum in my future mini-project. By the way, despite the relatively short exposure time, many interesting galaxies in the background were captured, which serves as the best advertisement for the sky of the Beskid Niski Mountains (and my mother-in-law's terrace :D). #astronomy #earthsky #astrophotography #astronomylover #astrophoto #sky #skyphotography #nightphotography #milkyway #space #universe #nightphotography #stargazing #universetoday #star #night #nightsky #astrofotografia #nebula #Playerone #owl #messier

"Alien Hoodoo" . While my last post had this fantastic hoodoo featured during blue hour, I was really there to get it with the Milky Way. I had planned on doing it with some low level lighting (which I did with @travelsfromutah and @brendon.porter), but my twilight blend image worked better for me. . The spring Milky Way has a nice flat appearance as it comes up during the night. But it makes for a long night. I did the twilight exposure around 9 pm, but the MW didn’t rise into position until 3:30 am. Such is the life of an astro photographer! . On the technical side, the Milky Way image was taken both with an astro moded camera, and with a Ha filter. It was tracked from a nearby position that gave me an unobstructed view of the sky. Have you ever looked up at the sky and seen a flash in the corner of your eye? It’s quick, gone faster than you can register, but it was there. Later, you will call it a shooting star. But that is no star. It’s a comet, or a “dirty snowball” as some scientists like to call them. Comets are tiny ice remnants from when our solar system first formed. They originated in the same disk of gas and dust as the eight planets, but they contain a lot more ice since they formed in extremely frigid areas, far from the sun. As a comet gets warmer, it grows a tail of gas and dust that can be millions of miles long, always pointing away from the sun. That is what we see in the sky; a warming comet, nearing Earth’s atmosphere and burning because of it. It stands as a testament to our planet’s nature. The majority of comets we see are found in the furthest regions of the solar system, which is where we sometimes view them in the night sky. The Oort Cloud is this area, which stretches almost halfway from the Kuiper Belt to the nearest star. One of the most famous comets is Halley’s Comet, as pictured above. Halley’s Comet only passes by Earth every 75-79 years. It was last seen in 1986, and will next be seen in mid-2061. As the legend goes, Halley’s comet was thought to predict the outcome of the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains and the defeat of Attila the Hun. The comet even inspired a Billie Eilish song! Another notable comet is Comet Hale-Bopp. It was one of the most widely observed comets of the 20th century, as it was discovered in 1995, and was the brightest seen in decades. The extraordinary nature of the comet captured many people’s curiosity. Comets truly stand as a testament to the depth of the universe and all the hidden gems it holds. Had the most amazing day at the Greenwich Maritime museum yesterday. Went to the see the exhibition of the Astronomy photographer of the year again and nabbed myself the book of it so I can enjoy the exhibits in the comfort of my home. I can highly recommend this exhibition, you don't have to be a super fan like me. The photos are exquisite, beautiful and totally mesmerising. I particularly enjoyed the young photographer section with one of the participants being only 7 years old! A big shout out to my daughter who looked after me and whom I wouldn't have made the trip without her. If you have a mobility disability using public transport is nearly impossible. We booked assistance but it was pointless as we had to look for staff every step of our journey. The Tulip Nebula and Cygnus X-1 The most prominient part of the image is the Tulip Nebula, cataloged as Sharpless 101 (Sh2-101). It is a H II region emission nebula lying at a distance of about 6,000 light-years from us. It is called Tulip Nebula because it resembles the outline of a tulip when imaged photographically. Cygnus X-1 At the right of the Tulip Nebula there is located the brightest X-ray source of the constellation Cygnus, discovered in the middle '60s. It consists of a bright blue star (HDE 226868) and a high mass very small object that orbit around each other in a period of 5,6 days. This object was one of the first candidates for a black hole, but astronomers were unable to determine the hole’s exact nature for a long time. By 2011 they managed to measure its distance with high accuracy, so now the numbers show that the the compact object has a mass of 15 Suns and its diameter is about 50 kms only. That means this is a black hole. The black hole pulls gas off the surface of the star and this gas heats up and shines in X-rays as it falls towards the black hole. At the same time a pair of relativistic jets form as well and they emanate perpendicular to the accretion disk of the black hole. The curved bow shock structure shown in the image is the result of one of these jets interacting with a dense interstellar material. #astronomylover #astrophotography #nebula #blackhole #lookup #amazing #space #universe #galaxy #cosmos #travel #in #space #instadaily 🥰❤️❣️🌌😍❣️
