The transition of the Milky Way from darker skies, earlier in the morning, to just before sunrise at Bryce National Park. It’s amazing to try and capture the beauty that the night sky has to offer. Especially on the middle of the narrow rock that jettisons out over the amazing landscape of hoodoos and the canyon. I probably won’t admit that I practically crawled out on my butt, only because it was really dark and the moon had finally set in the western sky, but instead I totally walked out there like I was Conner McGregor walking into the octagon ready to win a belt. Besides the lack of sleep, I absolutely love taking photos of the stars and Milky Way in amazing landscapes. It brings me a sense of peace and tranquility that you can’t understand unless you try it. Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA) has captured this unusual view of the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293), a planetary nebula located 700 light-years away. The coloured picture was created from images taken through Y, J and K infrared filters. While bringing to light a rich background of stars and galaxies, the telescope's infrared vision also reveals strands of cold nebular gas that are mostly obscured in visible images of the Helix. Dolomites is a very special place to me. Not only it offers you splendid views, but it calms the mind. We come back almost every two years to enjoy the jagged peaks, the cozy mountain huts, the food and of course the night sky. That specific night I captured my favorite and best image (the huge panorama of Tre Cime). The aftermath was that astro selfie to seal the memory. Technically it's maybe one the of hardest shots that I've done and processed. Not perfect, still the result is very good. I had to focus stack 4 images (not enough) to get as many details as possible. Also the flowers near me were so beautiful, but I couldn't get a still shot of them as there were wind gusts all the time. Still, a night to remember! 1: Ultraviolet Rings of M31. A mere 2.5 million light-years away the Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31, really is just next door as large galaxies go. So close and spanning some 260,000 light-years, it took 11 different image fields from the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) satellite’s telescope to produce this gorgeous portrait of the spiral galaxy in ultraviolet light. 2: Nearby Spiral Galaxy NGC 4945. Large spiral galaxy NGC 4945 is seen edge-on near the center of this cosmic galaxy portrait. In fact, NGC 4945 is almost the size of our own Milky Way Galaxy. 3: M106: A Spiral Galaxy with a Strange Center. What’s happening at the center of spiral galaxy M106? A swirling disk of stars and gas, M106’s appearance is dominated by blue spiral arms and red dust lanes near the nucleus, as shown in the featured image. 4: NGC 6814: Grand Design Spiral Galaxy from Hubble. 🍄🍄 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 🍄🍄 🌍 Do you know that mushroom grows up in desert?? Yes but, made of rocks!! My first photo in a desert, an incredible experience! After we settled in our tents in Wadi Rum, we had a typical bedouin dinner and after drinking their breakfast hot tea near the fire in the camp and decided our spots, we started moving in the desert on our 4x4 and I, obviously, was in the uncovered back.😍 We travel among the rocks canyon shaped by atmospheric environments and every rocks leaves us breathless, since we finally arrived to our mushroom 🍄. Among the cats that moved our gear and some first difficulties, we shot our first image in Wadi Rum desert. An incredible emotion! After that, we soon start moving to another spot!! 🇮🇹 Voi sapevate che nel deserto crescono i funghi?? Di roccia!! La mia prima foto nel deserto, un esperienza incredibile. Dopo esserci sistemati nelle nostre tende nel Wadi Rum, abbiamo cenato alla maniera tipica dei beduini e dopo aver bevuto il loro the bollente vicino al fuoco e concordato le nostre tappe, abbiamo iniziato a muoverci nel deserto sulla nostra 4x4, io ovviamente ero nel cassone dietro 😍. Abbiamo viaggiato tra canyon modellati dagli agenti atmosferici e ad ogni roccia rimanevamo a bocca aperta, finché non abbiamo raggiunto il nostro fungo🍄. Tra i gatti che muovevano l'attrezzatura e qualche prima difficoltà abbiamo scattato la nostra prima foto nel deserto del Wadi Rum. Un emozione incredibile! Buenos dias! Gestern Nacht wurde es nochmal gegen 1 Uhr klar. Da ich schon den ganzen Abend auf der Lauer lag, nutzte ich diese seltene Gelegenheit trotz des aufgehenden Mondes. Ziel war Messier 104 auch bekannt als die Sombrerogalaxie. Ein Objekt welches ich schon lange fotografieren wollte, da ich immer wieder fasziniert war wenn ich Bilder dieser Galaxie sah. Wie ich finde eine schönsten Galaxien an unserem Nachthimmel :-) Leider befindet sich diese Galaxie in unseren Breitengraden ziemlich nah am Horizont, so dass es nur ein kleines Zeitfenster gibt um sie zu erwischen. Zusammen mit dem Mond und den immer noch durchziehenden Wolken ein war es ein sportliches Unterfangen :-) Die Sombrerogalaxie/Messier 104 liegt im Sternbild Jungfrau (ist aber nicht Teil des Virgo Galaxienhaufens), hat eine Entfernung von ca. 30000000 Lichtjahren (30 Millionen). Sie hat in etwa 1/3 der Größe unserer Heimatgalaxie der Milchstraße und besitzt etwa die halbe Masse. Das schwarze Loch in der Mitte der Galaxie ist hingegen deutlich massereicher als das in der Milchstraße. Es wird auf eine Milliarde Sonnenmassen geschätzt – das in der Milchstraße hat „nur“ vier Millionen Sonnenmassen. Ihren Spitznamen verdankt sie dem Erscheinungsbild, das von einem dichten Staubring und einem überdurchschnittlichen großen, hellen Kern geprägt wird. Durch die geringe Neigung der Äquatorebene zur Sichtlinie sind ihre feinen Spiralarme kaum zu erkennen. I tried out my Skywatcher GTi for the first real time, under the La Palma sky! I tried to expose a 4x3 mosaic of the region from Orion to the Plejades, hoping to also expose the comet P12/Pons Brooks in the meantime. Thus far I shot my mosaics always manually but after the big one last year with 160 exposures (109 of which ended up in the final panorama), I wanted to try automated mosaics. This is why I got myself a MeLe 3q mini PC with Win11, N.I.N.A, Greenswamp, etc. on it and the GTi mount. Except for the annoying backlash, everything worked great and the programmed sequence ran like a charm. I learned, however, some lessons: - for scenes at dusk, close to the horizon, I really should use exposure bracketing. The earliest frames were overpowering bright! At this rate they are impossible to blend! - a deactivated frame in the sequencer is still being centered by the mount, which is exactly what I did not want. I have to delete them completely if I want to avoid collisions at the horizon. - the WiFi hotspot and remote desktop worked like a charm! Many thanks to @cuivlazygeek ! - the powersupply for the MeLe, which was my biggest worry, worked like a charm! No need to prepare alternatives via AA batteries🙈! One glorious thing came out of it, though: The usage of a voltage regulator, 8V-35V in, 12V out. This thing is stable like a rock! - doing Astronomy in front of the visitors center instead of hiking onto some hill has advantages: No hike was necessary this time, no exhaustion, no time wasted! Which one do you like better? The difference a few minutes make between absolute darkness and the beginning of dawn. Hiking up a mountain in absolute darkness is very rewarding when the view is like this. Especially when you get to see the „black horse“ core of our galaxy with your bare eye! Jochberg mountain, located about 1 hour from Munich in Bavaria, Germany, is a popular destination for city people to get out into nature. Not a surprise that we were not alone for the sunrise in the end- even though I wouldn’t call it a crowd.
