the journey to camber ✨🫶🏽 i remember having a conversation with my husband about how excited i was to capture these moments because with birth, nothing is posed. there’s no prompts. it’s vulnerable and it’s real. it takes you inward. it doesn’t get any more raw than birth. i just stood back in complete awe of how katelin rode every wave, used pockets of rest, and called her baby into the world like a literal lioness 🦁 being invited into her birth space was an absolute honor that i’ll remember all the days of my life. i am so proud of you @_ktree and have so much love and respect for you. i have so much admiration for her doula @bungardaimee and the midwives and nurses at @midwifecenter for encouraging katelin every step of the way, using comfort measures as she was in the trenches, and honoring her plan to have a physiological birth. it was beautiful to see so many women, along with her husband, lifting her and speaking life over her. over the next few weeks, i’ll be sharing more and more about this birth 💛 #birthphoto #birthphotography #pittsburghbirthphotographer #midwifecenterofpittsburgh #pennsylvaniaphotographer #pennsylvaniabirthphotographer

Today, I want to feature one of my favorite births of last year. Supporting a family who went through the loss of their first child can be so heavy. I aimed to capture this birth with love, paying close attention to little details. It was a gorgeous day on the birth of their second child with a 10 out of 10 healthcare team that particular shift, and some fun extra wishes were granted. I only get a few opportunities to photograph babies attached to the placenta. Still, when I do, it definitely puts me in a fantastic mood for the day! Story's story, part 3. Story was born 3.5 hours after my water broke. Her birth was uncomplicated and smooth (despite the last-minute change to the hospital due to me having the flu). I was checked at 7cm and pushed her out a minute later. The relief flowed freely! She was here and she was a healthy 8.11 lbs. The cyst was delivered as well and brought to pathology. We never learned the results (which is odd, but we've just always believed it meant they didn't find anything). We ordered tacos and celebrated happily texting everyone the glorious news. We were moved to an isolation room since I technically was sick (even though I was feeling immensely better). It was closet hall tiny but we didn't care. We noticed Story was beginning to choke on some fluids that hadn't left her system yet. They should have come out during the pushing phase but because it was incredibly quick (30-60 seconds), they'd never been squeezed out of her. The nurses were monitoring her closely, but her oxygen kept dropping lower than they wanted. There was talk of a doctor coming to look at her soon when all of a sudden her oxygen dropped even more, and they WHISKED her out of the room faster than I had time to say goodbye. I will never forget the blessed nurse who turned around and looked me dead in my eyes and,with such conviction ,ssured me that Story would be fine. We didn't see her for hours. I was not allowed out of my room since we were on the isolation floor. They told us that she was in the NICU but not admitted in. However, they kept her all night, and I ended up needing to pump. The following morning they brought her back!! They'd gotten out the fluids, and thankfully, she was fine. I can't help but wonder if God had her labor and delivery planned around my having the flu, so we'd be at a hospital where they could immediately take Story that night. I praise God for his plans, her story and life. I pray her story is used for his glory and her life will be a living testimony to his grace and goodness.
