While we still feel the sting of her loss, Pastor Caleb Musselman reminded us of how grief and hope hold hands because of the person of Jesus, who was no stranger to grief and in whom we can have hope. In a dear gesture from Becky's parents, her "ninja" knife set was gifted to Chef Patti, who had a profound impact on Bex. There were tears. There was laughter. There was good food. Together, with your unwavering support, we've turned those dreams into reality. With 26 pieces of legislation signed into law, we've proudly become Western Pennsylvania's leading animal protection nonprofit. Here are some highlights from our journey: 🐶🐱 Retail Sales Ban, 2015: We championed ordinances in Pittsburgh to protect mill-bred animals, including a pioneering retail sales ban and requirements for breeder disclosure in advertisements. 🐘🎪 Bullhook Plus Ban, 2017: We spearheaded the Bullhook Plus Ban, which prohibited the use of bullhooks, electric prods, shocking devices, and other instruments capable of inflicting pain or intimidating or threatening pain to control the behavior of wild or exotic animals. This led to the end of circuses like the Shrine Circus in Pittsburgh. 🦆🚫 Foie Gras Ban, 2023: With your support, we pushed for and achieved a groundbreaking ban on cruel products derived from force-feeding animals like foie gras in Pittsburgh. We're throwing it WAY back to 2015 when Humane Action Pittsburgh was founded! We had our inaugural meeting on April 14, 2015, at East Liberty Presbyterian Church, kicking off what was to become an impactful year! We passed the retail sales ban of dogs, cats, and rabbits not from a shelter or rescue in Pittsburgh, the first ordinance of its kind in Pennsylvania. We also ended the year being recognized by the Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center. The team just met for our 3-month check-in/planning meeting and we shared these 3 numbers with them and we wanted to share with you what your donations have accomplished so far in 2024. 🍽️ Over 3,125 meals have been distributed from the Beaver Falls Storehouse. The Sewickley Storehouse is being prepped and we can't wait to officially launch this year! 📚 Between all 3 students, they've had 400 hours of classes, studying, and homework. 🚚 You helped us purchase our trailer (in record time) so we can distribute more food, faster, and into the hands of Pittsburgh families in need. 🗣️ Our Peru directors have had 21 group & individual mentorship meetings with our students giving them guidance and teaching them valuable life lessons like our parents and grandparents taught us. 🏡 We launched Olla Comun! This is our newest mission in Peru where we help renovate community kitchens with plumbing, running water, stoves, exhaust vents, and concrete flooring. Our first kitchen has been renovated and there is plenty of work to be done! This is the impact that YOU are making. We're serious when we say that your generosity is making all of this possible.
