Day 2 of #nfcm (National Foster Care Month) Our why? Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy. Proverbs 31:8-9 It's coming up on almost 2 years since Eli came into our home. And honestly if he didn't, he probably wouldn't be alive today. We foster to save those lives, to love hard, to nurture, and to help grow. We foster to encourage. We foster to build a lasting bond and make a difference no matter how big or small. We foster to grow connections with these kids. We foster not to satisfy our want to have children but to step into that roll for them so they know they are wanted, fought for and prayed for constantly. And that they matter! We stepped into fostering bc a strong pull that me and my husband felt one night while eating dinner. I was reading an article that was talking about the foster care system, and we both mentioned it at the same time. That's how you know it wasn't from us but from God. We got married 3 months prior in June of 2020, newly married, and learning the ins and outs of marriage, you wouldn't expect a new couple to jump in so quickly, to something so vast. But when God calls you to a ministry, you do it. And trust his will and his plan. We both always had a heart for helping children, whether it be donating to a cause, helping with Sunday school, youth, and teen ministry in our previous churches. Or babysitting for friends who needed us to step in for a bit. Aaron comes from a large family, and I come from a small family, and I have always dreamed of a home filled with children bc that's where my heart was. Growing up, yes, I had a desire to work and have a career, but deep down inside, I always wanted to be a mother. And who knew the unexpected way I would become one. Children in the system need a voice to speak for them, and we are called to do so. Children are a gift from God, and when their innocent souls come into a corrupt world, it's our job to protect them at all costs. This is why we Foster. This is our ministry.

Mrs. Shivani Singhvi, member of Foster Care Society, briefed the workers about the Foster Care Program and encouraged them to provide information about children in need of care and protection in the community, as well as potential parents, to the society. This step aims to contribute towards a better future for children living in our society. We’re hiring for Camp Hope! Our inclusive therapeutic day camp experience is looking for counselors. Camp Hope will be held from June 17th to July 26th at Waldorf School of Charlottesville. Our campers, ages 4 to 10+, have diverse backgrounds with behavioral needs, mental health diagnoses, intellectual disability, and/or trauma. We’re looking for experienced counselors to join in the fun! We have broken up the six weeks of camp into three sessions, each for two weeks. Counselors can work one to all six sessions. Day 2: MY WHY (Part 3) With one exception…one exception we had always been open with each other and DSS about. Weston had a little brother who was born after Weston was adopted. And if, heaven forbid, something were to happen, and he needed a place to go…well, we always wanted to be contacted. So, when I was called by another state 2+ years ago about a little toddler who had come into their care….well, that’s why we said “Yes”. Yes to him. Yes to the red tape of the ICPC process. Yes to even more home visits and studies and whatnot. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. So, this is only part of my “why”. A small glimpse into why we have chosen this for us and our family. Because the children and youth are worth it. Always worth it. Regardless of the stress. Day 2: MY WHY (Part 2) Our license was submitted one Thursday to the state for approval, and the very next day we got a call for our first placement - it was an immediate “yes” from us for multiple reasons. But it was also a text-book worst-case scenario in many ways too (not the child by any means, but the situation was covered on local news outlets, one parent in particular was erratic, etc.). We fostered a little boy during that same time who eventually reunified with siblings in another home. Two days after his reunification, we said “yes” to our son, Weston. He came to us unwell and with nothing, but Andrew and him bonded nearly immediately. Then we took a long break in there from saying “yes” because, well….twins. 👧🏻👦🏻 In that time we also finalized Weston’s adoption. Then, after the babies were toddlers, we decided to resume fostering, because we had the space and ability - we just couldn’t do another car seat. And we didn’t want more diapers in the house. 🤣 So, we changed our age bracket to 8-11 years old…you know, upper elementary-ish? We also had specific parameters regarding situations we would consider given the younger children already in our home. So…we were called for one placement - an 11 year old. We said yes. We were told that evening that a family member intervened. Then we were called a few days later - would we consider a 12 year old girl who was about to turn 13? Seventh grade. Needs to be going to school. Really well mannered - just not seeing eye-to-eye with her kinship placement. We could have a week to prep for her to move - the other home wasn’t in an immediate rush. We considered and talked about it. We ultimately said yes. To Myah, our now 19-year-old daughter. We were done fostering. We were done adopting. We were done-done. Four kids?? Day 2: MY WHY (Part 1) I briefly touched on my “why” when it comes to foster care and adoption with my day #1 post - but I’ll expound on it more here. Ever since I was a little girl (I would venture to guess second or third grade), I would always say that I was going to have multiple kids as an adult - both biological as well as adopted. Initially my thoughts were of adopting internationally - I don’t think my young mind understood that there was a need for foster and adoptive homes within my own community. Then, as I got older, I realized that there was a need for foster homes and adoptive families locally - it may have been partially due to the fact that my middle school and high school years were distinctly positioned in a development very crassly named “Orphanage Rd” 🙄 (it’s real - feel free to fact check me), or it just may have been my intuition hard-wired for this life. I don’t know. But I distinctly remember my mom affirming my claims for how my future family would come-to-be sometime in high school or college, when she made a comment that “if there was anyone (she) had ever met that could parent and love any child as if they were her own, it was me”. Then, in my early 20’s, I encountered some confusing health issues/concerns that had doctors puzzled. I had a couple blood transfusions. I had to go into a medically induced menopause for 6 months at the age of 25. So, there was that - all before and while I was meeting Andrew. We didn’t know how the shot I was getting monthly at the time would impact me long-term and when it came time to try to start a family of my own. I was okay-enough with the notion that I might never be able to have biological kids of my own, but it was also always a possibility on my radar. So, beginning to foster almost immediately after getting married (we were married just barely over a year when we said yes to our first placement) was a no-brainer. My watch alerted me to danger the other day during one of my children’s dysregulated moments. It was annoying at the time, but it made me realize that my body is reacting to real danger and that it is simply miraculous when God shows up to keep me grounded in these moments. Day 2: My Why My “why” in foster care? It’s for the one navigating life’s rough patches, like the single mom grappling with addiction or the dad without a mentor. It’s for those stuck in the cycle of poverty and trauma, feeling like they’ve hit rock bottom, or made mistakes they can’t shake. It’s for those who’ve never known parental love in a healthy or stable way. It’s for the parent who bounced around foster homes themselves. Foster care has taught me to deeply rely on Him. It’s softened my heart for the things that breaks His. It’s taught me how to bring the good, bad, and the ugly in myself straight to him. Through foster care, my prayer is simple: that our hearts stay open, we live out the gospel in our actions and words, and we follow God’s lead, no matter where it takes us. 🤍

Hello 👋 I’m Courtnie and this is my crew! All 6 of our kiddos are adopted from Foster Care. I started fostering while I was single and someone crazy enough decided to join our journey about 5 years ago. I fostered for a little over 7 years! We have 3 sibling sets of 2 and we’re done! Our kids are 11, 7 (very soon to be 8), 6, 4, 2, 20 months 😅 We recently moved to Ogden, Utah from a small town in Missouri to be closer to family. When we moved here I became a caseworker for the Division of Child and Family services in our county. I knew that although I’m done fostering and adopting I’m not done trying to make a difference in the lives of broken families. Besides being a mom being a caseworker has been the hardest job! For this month I want to share from a platform of foster/adoptive mom turned social worker. I may follow some of the prompts from over on @fosterthefamilyblog page like this one, but I also plan to go off on my own beaten path. We shall see how this goes. ✌🏻😹 Bringing back the peace sign and duck face for this intro. IT’S DAY 1 of Foster Care Awareness Month. I’ll be participating in (most of) @fosterthefamilyblog ‘s daily challenge. Day 1: Intro Hi! I’m Zoë. I’ve wanted to be a bio, foster and adoptive mom my whole life. I have a huge heart for children and have been a dedicated nanny for over a decade. I decided to start my own family in 2021 as a single mom by choice. I thought that starting my family with a biological child would be the fastest path to get started with the least amount of uncertainty. (😂) My plan was always to foster and adopt children after that. Boy was I wrong! After a tumultuous few years of ttc, I decided to switch up the order of my plan and get licensed to be a foster parent! Thank goodness I did. I ended up meeting the most special babies during my process and it quickly became the plan for me to take over custody as their former foster family was no longer going to be able to have them. There were a lot of ups and downs but they are here now and fill my life with so much love and joy! Aside from nannying and being a foster mom, I love traveling, spending time with friends and family, and crafting! (No time for that these days though). Ha. Thanks for getting to know me! My name is Brianna…. I’m 27, single and I said “YES” to being a foster parent. • 341 days ago at the age of 26, I became a single foster mom. Standing here today it feels like a different lifetime before I entered the world of foster care. I have had a heart for foster care and adoption for as far back as I can remember. But it wasn’t until I became a Christian & got older that I REALLY understood WHY I should step into the world of foster care. But I was not yet in a place to do it myself — so I learned & got involved in foster kids lives however I could. This involvement included loving on foster kiddos at my church and in college serving in a youth group at a foster “group home” facility. • Then when I was in the position to… I said “YES” to being a foster parent. I said “YES” to letting my single, young adult freedom go. I said “YES” to stepping into someone else’s broken. I said “YES” to humility. I said “YES” to admitting I cannot do this alone. I said “YES” to an opportunity to love a kiddo and family that they may, Lord willing, one day know the love of Christ through my sacrifice and love for them. And if not while I’m involved in their lives… I pray that my community and I may plant many seeds in each child & families lives. • 341 days ago, I said “YES” to a life of discomfort but with so much beauty as I’ve seen my God and community work in ways I could have never imagined. • So that’s me. I’ve been Fostering (solo) for just over 4 years now. 2. I have had a total of 15 Long term kiddos and many more respite/short term. -2 Brothers (Reunified!) -1 Baby Boy (Went to Family!) -Phoenix (My baby forever) -Greece & her 2 siblings (I still have her, Siblings went to Paternal Family, then Reunified!) -1 Little Girl (Reunified!) -2 Brothers (Needed more than I could give, went to a home with a stay at home Mom, then reunified!) -3 Siblings (Just left to Family) -Greece’s Little Brother,Milos (Still with us) -New Girl (Still with me - Help me pick a social name, she has 3 sisters so must go together!) 3. I adopted my son, Phoenix, last year. He is truly the highlight of my life. 4. I don’t know how to slow down or take a break. 5. I am always up for challenges. 6. I (and the children) thrive in routine! 7. I was ready to quit fostering once Greece and Milos got reunified. 8. I met my new girlie (who still needs a social name!) and full force decided that I absolutely cannot be done. . . And that Brings us to May 1st, Foster Care Awareness Month. Throughout the state of Indiana there are over 8,000 children in need of foster homes. Within our agency we receive hundreds of referrals each month for children sitting in offices, waiting in shelter care, and stuck in residential facilities because there are not enough foster homes available to meet the need. Placing a child in a foster home instead of leaving them in facilities or shelters increases the likelihood that they will develop secure attachments, heal from generational trauma, and have a stable and successful future. Who am I? I’ll tell you who I’m not. I’m not a mom of “lucky kids”. I’m a woman who is unbelievably blessed that God continues to give me the tools to parent not only my biological child but children I did not give birth to. Is it easy? No! Do I find myself emotionally drained, overstimulated, baffled, frustrated or triggered? Yes! But guess what? I continue to show up every single day for all of my children… even with mental health issues of my own. I believe in therapy not only for my children who have walked through hard times but for myself!!! ✨️ Clean Puppies ✨️ Everyone had a shower and a feeling and smelling great!! Delilah has been itching quite a bit, assuming cause she was in the kennels for a little bit... and stupid me didn't think to bath her after I picked her up. Her skin doesn't seem red or irritated so hopefully this helps, she's got a few bald spots from nibbling, but I also think the other dogs don't help as they nibble each other when they play too. She was very well behaved in the shower, had to pin her to be able to trim her nails though... 🐾 Today was quite the day for Brenda as she navigated through a whirlwind of treatments on her journey through foster care! Starting with spaying surgery, vaccinations, and eyelid tacking. We are all hoping that she will be able to avoid the need for further eye surgeries, but that'll depend on how she heals from the eyelid tacking. 🩹 She's been dealing with dealing with red, inflamed, and itchy skin. Brenda's on a regimen of medication to alleviate discomfort. If the medication doesn't clear it up, we may need to change up her food. An ear infection was confirmed, but she's taking it in stride with prescribed antibiotics. This girl is scheduled for multiple vet visits pretty much weekly for the next short bit of time in order to keep an eye on the progress of each of these different issues. By the end of it all, she's either going to learn to love the vet or hate the vet. I wonder which it'll be 🐶 Amidst it all, she managed to enjoy a bit of food, took her pills like a pro, and even hydrated with some water. Now, she's found solace in Joy's kennel, peacefully resting after her busy day at the vet. Yes, that's right we actually have a dog post surgery who came home and is sleeping it off. 🐾 Meet Cash! 🐾 Cash is a 3-year-old White German Shepherd who found himself in need of a new home through no fault of his own. His foster daddy, unfortunately, is in hospice care, and Cash is seeking a loving family to provide him with the care and attention he deserves. He is a little shy or timid at first, but warms up quickly. Cash will be going home on a foster-to-adopt contract until he's neutered. Here's what this means: 🔜 He won't officially be yours until he is neutered by our partner vets, which is included in the adoption fees. After this process is complete, Cash will officially become a permanent member of your family! Despite his circumstances, Cash is a sweetheart with a lot of love to give. He was previously in a home with small dogs and cats, though he can be a little territorial of his humans. However, he loves to play, smile, and meet new people. Today is May 1st, which means it’s National Foster Care Month. If you know me, you know that I have no problem talking anyone’s ear off about foster care, adoption, and the incredible need within this community. So this year, I’m trying to post daily along the topics @fosterthefamilyblog has has thrown out there - so let’s get started! Day 1: INTRODUCE YOURSELF I’m Lindsay and my husband is Andrew. We live in NC, and will be celebrating 11 years of marriage later this year. We are the parents to 5 amazing kids - 2 daughters and 3 sons, ages 6-19 years old - but more on them as the month proceeds. 😜 Andrew and I both work full time - my husband owns and operates his own sports lighting business, and I’m a middle school counselor as well as a mental health clinician. Some random facts about us: *Andrew and I met online. We dated 6 months and were engaged for 12 months. *I’ve known since I was a young kid that I wanted to foster/adopt. Don’t know why, honestly. It was just something I’ve always felt led to do. Andrew on the other hand had never considered fostering or adopting until he met me - we actually built conversations into premarital counseling about these topics. *We’ve been foster parents since the end of 2014. We’ve fostered 5 kiddos during that time, and provided respite for 3 other kids. We have been keeping a secret… we have been fostering for the last (almost) 3 months. God had laid fostering on our hearts over two years ago, and after many prayers and classes we became licensed back in December. There are over 400,000 children in foster care across the United States, the more we understood the need, the more God opened up doors for us. We have been incredibly blessed these past few months welcoming this babe into our hearts. We don’t know how long we have, so we have been intentional about every moment we spend together.
