🌟 Another unforgettable Talent Trek Camp in the books! 🌟 During the April school holidays, we ran a spring edition of the camp, which has now become a cherished tradition for Sportunity. Blending sports and cultural exploration into a vibrant kaleidoscope of activities, the camp offers refugee children a unique leisure opportunity while boosting self-confidence and fostering appreciation for their new surroundings. And what an exciting week it was! From exploring history and culture at Villa Vauban to delving into the world of computer characters and stop motion magic at Casino, each moment was filled with excitement and discovery. We also found inspiration at Tuffi Children's Library and embarked on a guided tour of the Rail Museum at Minett Park Fond-de-Gras. Our sweet finale at Tricentenaire Chocolate Atelier was the perfect way to wrap up our week. And amidst it all, we kept our bodies and spirits energized with sports galore, from football to athletics. REACH Peer Mentors began the process of readying their bikes for spring and summer use during a #bikerepairclinic with our friends at The Recyclery. Our refugee youth leaders reviewed the basics of inspecting one’s bike for wear and tear, changed #flattires and tubes, aligned brakes and replaced #brakepads, learned how to #trueawheel, and gained a confidence in their abilities to stay safe on the trails or roads. YEDI team joined others from ten organizations across Africa in the first regional cohort of gender equality changemakers with Equal Play Effect Africa which held in Grand Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire from April 15 to 19. The training which centered around gender equality in sport development at level of the pitch, sideline, and organization, is geared towards improving the capacity of participants to look at their activities through a gender lens. As part of our endline evaluations for the Community Sports Program, our Project Officer, Hariom Agarwal, and Community Sports Coordinator, Pragatee Sethy, led the qualitative and quantitative assessments earlier this month in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Through surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews, participants aged 5-16 shared their transformational experiences of participating in the program. We also engaged other stakeholders such as school teachers, parents and coaches in the evaluation process. One of the greatest bowlers in the history of cricket, James Anderson, will be joining us to play at The Alfred Dunhill Padel Classic. Anton is involved in a project run by @hacro_herts that aims to give ex-offenders a second chance and reduce re-offending in Herts. Through the project, Anton has learnt to play tennis and absolutely loves it. He spends hours every week playing. So much so that he has worn through the original pair of tennis shoes we gave him.
