First photo: best developed and largest Nepenthes edwardsiana pitcher so far on my SG plant (which is approaching 20 inches across) from @nepenthesgod . Itās still got some developing to do too as it finished opening out. Second photo: an older pitcher, showing the color this trap will eventually sport. The leaves have been routinely getting larger all winter and the next is still expanding, already as big as this last one, so I expect the traps to keep following suit too. Two hamata hybridsā¦ Nepenthes villosa x hamata may still be in seedling stage, but itās getting bigger with every leaf and is undoubtedly promising to be one of my favorite plants. Certainly more tolerant than pure villosa is, and grows far better than my hamata x edwardsiana does too. And N. hamata x platychila (the original Malesiana form; I have not been at all impressed with the BE pics Iāve seen) has both a basal going, and has begun producing upper pitchers for the first time. I leave the vine growing in hopes of a flower, but the uppers of this cross have never been particularly attractive to me as they seem to lose both of the best traits either parent can pass on. Nepenthes bicalcarata Sri Aman finally got the repotting it has needed for some time, and will hopefully start gaining size toward being the monster this species can be. This particular plant changes color as the traps age from a warm orange with yellow peristomes to rusty deep reds, and the tips of the fangs retain a slightly lighter tone. Something I havenāt noticed before: previously I was of the thought that the fangs were comprised of a single enlarged rib each under the lid, but instead it is a lengthening of the entire peristome structure, just culminating in the final rib making a sharp point at the end. This makes me very curious as to what would result if it could be crossed with one of the other classically toothy species like edwardsiana or hamataā¦because there might just be both an exaggerated fang structure as well as significant ribs leading all the way up to the fangs. Another spectacular species that, despite its reputation as a picky cold-loving plant, has not given one care about summer heat. Bigger leaves, bigger pitchers every leafā¦ Nepenthes macrophylla is one of the famous giants of Mount Trus Madi in Borneo, the sole member of the villosa complex on the mountain and having either a convergent evolution with its neighboring N. lowii or, through gene transfer via the natural hybrid x trusmadiensis perhaps more likely, a stealing of traits to share the tree shrew poop-gathering feeding strategy that lowii uses. Pereskia grandifolia and Pereskia bleo I moved the last two Pereskia outdoors this past weekend. The grandifolia is growing lopsided with intent. The only part of this plant that I care about is the trunk so the foliage and flowers are a bit of an afterthought. I have spent almost 15 years growing this into something I will eventually call a bonsai. The Pereskia bleo is the fussiest of the four types of Pereskia I currently grow but I hope to eventually get a few orange blooms with more time and patience. I have been waiting for four years now so I am sure it will bloom any day now or never. I am aware that these have been regrouped into other names but I genuinely do not care. I can assure you that plants will grow just fine if you get their names wrong here and there. Cleistocactus winteri This started out as a thumb sized plant about 28 years ago. Every year or two, it experiences some sort of tragic fall. Been waiting so long, and finally got far enough down the bench to repot this: my seed-grown Nepenthes edwardsiana from @nepenthesgod got put in the āedwardsiana pot.ā When I got it the plant was barely an inch across, and come April will finally be 2 years since thenā¦and now that it has many times the space to grow into I hope that I will shortly see it explode in growth. A relatively newly opened lower (whose peristome will eventually turn black), and a couple uppers on Nepenthes thorelii x hamata. Considering how utterly lacking in peristome texture thorelii has, this cross sports some pretty impressive ribbing, and just great overall color.
