So about last night ❤️❤️ I don't even know where to start. I'm so overwhelmed by it all it was absolutely amazing. I ended up coming second in the beginners category at @kickasscurvesuk I still can't believe it. I need to start by thanking my amazing little sister @pole.by.poppy who has put up with my paddy's , given me her time to create this amazing routine and gave me the shove to enter in the first place. I am still on a high from last night 💞🍉 It was amazing to see a group of people come together for an amazing cause. Every person at the event whether they were in the cast, volunteering, or in the audience last night made it possible for @qtcruisingsf & @feralferocious to donate to 7 different mutual aid causes for Gazans. I oftentimes feel so small in this world and like there’s nothing I can do; I’m trapped on a planet I did not ask to be on witnessing a system of injustice take place. But there’s ALWAYS something you can do. ALWAYS. Go to a protest, attend a benefit event (or put on your own!), spread awareness on social media & through (often hard) conversations with the people around you, follow BDS guidelines, donate your time or labor or capital or energy or whatever you are able to give. Amazing things can happen when people come together and we are each just one piece of a puzzle. It was such an honor and a joy to be part of this event. I'm always one for hating on myself.. Look at my belly rolls, my cellulite, my thighs that are as wide as everyone elses waist.. I get myself really down all the time and just want to hide away because everyone around me is so young, pretty and fit. Getting old and arthritic has not been good for me mentally or physically when it comes to pole or as it is now my 'lack' of pole ability ... This last month of my life dealing with a horrible health scare has taught me that all of that stuff is completely irrelevant .. No more comparisons!!. I now couldn't care any less about how i or anyone else looks.. Life is too short to care about all that stuff.. On the last day of the year I’m taking time to reflect. There were many things that happen and many that didn’t. I completely stalled with my pole invert (I’m where I was a year ago) and my self confidence in hoop is in a fragile place but I’ve made progress too. I think my proudest achievement of the year, however, has been hearing from quite a few people that seeing my journey had inspired and encouraged them to try pole and aerial. That’s both humbling and mind blowing. I started posting things for others to see because I don’t look like people expect aerialists to look. I put off starting for so long because I wasn’t thin, super fit and uber flexible. Turns out, that didn’t matter. It isn’t always easy. Some people nail moves first try when I’ve been battling with them for months, or even years in some cases. I get disheartened and doubt myself. I get scared. Sometimes I end up in tears. So no, it’s not always easy, but it is worth it. So here’s to another year of representing those who aren’t thin, fit and flexible. I’m going to keep chipping away at my goals, enter more pole competitions and find more excuses to perform.
