This was one of my Mum’s favourite paintings of mine. When she once went on holiday with her friends, Dad got a print and framed it for her for her return. So is one of my favourite paintings too. We had just crossed the magnificent Pont-Neuf bridge, which is the oldest bridge in Paris, and I stopped to take this photo. - CROCUS EXPO - MOSBUILD - ESPOCADA - В этом году ваш покорный слуга в тандеме с Игорем Куркиным совместно разработали и воплотили концепцию стенда ESPOCADA Espocada на MosBuild Для большого объёма нашего стенда мы создали уникальную упаковку. Обернули его в специальную ткань и превратили в скульптуру. И это был не просто красивый декораторский приём, но эдакий оммаж творчеству художника-концептуалиста Кристо Явашева и его жены и коллеги Жанне-Клод, которые создали целое направление в искусстве и назвали его empaquetage - ампакетаж. Они обертывали различные предметы в специальные ткани или плёнку. Идея самого обёртывания многозначительна- уйти от психологии обладания предметом и насладиться предвкушением и той мимолётной и временной его красотой в те моменты, когда он упакован как подарок. Обратить внимание зрителя на новые эстетические качества предмета, которые он обретает после обёртывания, изменяя или подчеркивая его пропорции, формы и композицию. Начинал Кристо с упаковки небольших предметов вроде телефонных аппаратов, печатных машинок и автомобилей, в дальнейшем объём и масштаб упакованных объектов увеличивался с каждым новым проектом. В списке самых известных объектов архитектуры числится здание Бундестага в Берлине, Триумфальная арка и мост Пон-нёф в Париже, завёрнутое побережье в Сиднее и целые острова в Италии. Думаю, что нам удалось добиться подобного эффекта, завернув огромный объем павильона в специальную ткань, показав специфику работы компании ESPOCADA с многооразием и богатсвом тканей от лучших европейских производителей. The map is in poor shape, with tears and lots of pencil marks. I took the background image above in Paris, 🇫🇷; 5 days ago. I chose חנוכּה as today’s word because tonight is the 8th (and final) night of this year’s “Festival of Lights”. I found myself in the “City of Light” during (part of) this year’s Hanukkah, which began at 🌅 on 07 December 2023. The eight bright street lamps on the Pont Neuf (1607), in the photograph above, reminded me of the burning lamps on a Hanukkah menorah. Historically a minor Jewish festival - as there is no prohibition on work - Hanukkah has become very popular over the last century. Oily foods are associated with the festival and sugary doughnuts are perhaps the most popular with young and old alike. A friend requested I have a “religieuse [au] café” on her behalf. I thought it was a type of coffee but I was told, “It’s a pastry that’s delightful if you go to a good bakery” and that, “It’s an upgraded éclair basically. The round one with a smaller round bit on top.” A welcome note from the hotel manager and guest experience team included a quote by Saint Petersburg-born (now 🇷🇺) Sacha Guitry (21 February 1885-24 July 1957): “To be Parisian is not to be born in Paris, but to be born again.” To be honest, I had been overwhelmed by the warm welcome of the city that I had forgotten about the “religieuse [au] café”, until it was almost time to return to London. I picked one up, which had been expertly wrapped in the shape of a cone, from a neighbourhood bakery and rushed back to the Rue Daru in the 8th arrondissement to visit the Russian Orthodox “La cathédrale Saint-Alexandre-Nevsky” (1847). I hadn’t eaten lunch yet and it was already getting dark. It had also started to rain again. I pressed myself against the wall of a building on the perpendicular Rue Pierre Le Grand, finding shelter under a slightly protruding balcony. I was munching on a baguette when a friendly man passed, who told me to, “Garder pour la bonne bouche!” (Save the best for last!) 😘

Le pont Neuf , contrary to its name (the new bridge), is the oldest bridge in Paris. It was built between 1578 and 1607. It was an order from Henry III. It was the first bridge made of stone in the French capital and it was the first bridge which was not covered. It was also original because it did not have any sidewalk or any protection for the pedestrians. Pont Nuef’s Mascarons (stone masks). We did the touristy boat cruise around the river Seine and the unique stone masks were interesting! Wikipedia says these represent the heads of forest and field divinities from ancient mythology, however our tour guide said the faces represented all those who thought constructing the bridge was near impossible. Their faces were put up to mock them. Another story I came across: “King Henri IV was nicknamed Le Vert Galant (a French expression meaning ‘the old gallant) because of his liking for women even after a certain age. The legend says that the mascarons are the faces of the cheated husbands, more than 300!
