📰 @greenocktele readers will note today's article on the GP Out of Hours (GPOOH) service as @nhsggc board voted today on whether to implement changes to the service, which would see an in-person GPOOH centre in Inverclyde on Saturdays & Sundays during the day, & on public holidays. Anyone needing an in-person appointment out with those periods will be asked to attend a centre in Paisley. 🗳 Firstly, the health board have approved these changes. 👇 On my website, I have included the full comments I provided to the Tele yesterday. The article included most of my comments, but there are some key points & figures that I think are important to highlight. ❗️ Fundamentally, Inverclyde residents have full access to the GPOOH service. 📊 The public consultation showed only 22% of people supported the proposals because the majority of them hadn’t used the service & therefore believed we didn’t have access to it whatsoever. When you compared this figure with people locally who had used the service, support jumped to 68%. This demonstrated how misinformation being spread about this service has directly led to people either not using it or not knowing it is even there to be accessed. 📈 At no point in my comments do I welcome the proposals. What I have done however is acknowledge that my calls for the existing in-person hours at the IRH to be extended - which has been listened to, as we’ll now have an in-person service at IRH on a Sunday, which we don’t currently have. While I would like to see a further extension of these hours, the fact remains that this is an improvement to our current provision. 🗣 As always, I'd encourage anyone who uses the GPOOH to share their feedback with the health board. They will use this info to understand if the model is working well or whether further changes need to be made. 🏴✨🏴 "Timber Ponds were set up along the southern shore of the River Clyde in the early days of wooden shipbuiling, occupying the area between Port Glasgow and Langbank. The industry required vast quantities of thoroughly seasoned timber, and with shipyards occupying most of the shore line from central Greenock to eastern Port Glasgow, demand was prodigious. The ponds prevented the timber from floating away and allowed the logs to be organised according to type, length of seasoning, and ownership. Extreme weather could result in the logs breaking free of the ponds, closing the river until they were recovered. Remnants of the timber ponds still exist in the lines of vertical wooden posts sticking out of the mud, and rectangular areas can still be seen in aerial views of the surrounding riverbed. Imported from North America, timber crossed the Atlantic from Quebec to Port Glasgow. In 1825 this trade amounted to some 19,000 tons, and reached almost 28,000 tons by 1834. The timber was unloaded at the mid-harbour, then chained together with rafters and floated to the ponds. At their peak, the ponds extended as far as the Gare Loch, but the arrival of precut timber and steel construction by 1914 meant that few remained in use. Current practice is to place green, unseasoned timber in vast kilns, gradually reducing the moisture content until the sawn material is stable. This technology was not available in earlier years, when ancient practice was to leave the unsawn." A man has died after being found with serious injuries in a common close in Port Glasgow, police have confirmed. Emergency services rushed to Brookfield Road late on Saturday night and sealed off the street. We ate in the lounge which has a cozy fireplace, tartan carpets and a panelled window which I found really cute! pictured; 1 - seared fillet of cod wrapped in parmaham; with fresh tomato concasse, garlic new potatoes, basil oil. // this was my main. the cod was cooked beautifully & went really well with the parmaham. its also plated really gorgeously. 2 - kip tapas grazing platter; gyoza dumplings, veggie tempura, garlic bread, haddock goujons, black pudding fritters, croquettes. // we got this to share as a starter between 4, its said to be shared between two but 1/4 was very filling on its own. As I said at the time, the ending of the Bute House Agreement came as a surprise, but I trusted that the First Minister had taken the decision he felt was right for @thesnp and for Scotland. Having reflected upon this and the consequences thereafter, he has decided that the best way forward is with someone else at the helm. I respect Humza’s decision and thank him for his service as Scotland’s FM. The job of First Minister is never an easy one, but his leadership was rooted in the principles of equality, opportunity and community, which I admired. Humza’s achievements during his tenure reflect this, as one of his first acts as FM was to triple the Fuel Insecurity Fund to £30 million. He also secured a fully funded council tax freeze for the people of Scotland, helping all households during a Tory cost of living crisis; he presided over a record number of affordable housing completions, and record high investment in our NHS, which has resulted in Scotland being the only part of the UK not to be plagued with NHS strikes. The decision to end the Bute House Agreement came as a surprise but it has been taken, and I recognise how challenging the @scotparl will be for the remaining two years of the session. The Agreement has helped deliver many successes for Scotland, including delivering a progressive budget, which prioritises our NHS over tax cuts for the wealthy; free bus travel for under-22s, and bringing ScotRail into public ownership, to name just a few. However, as the First Minister said in his press conference, the key reason behind this agreement was to bring stability to Parliament. Yet the past few months have shown how it is no longer delivering that. I therefore agree that the BHA has served its purpose, and the time is right for us to move forward as a minority government. This will bring new challenges but this is not new territory for @thesnp, and the FM in his previous ministerial roles is well used to working with other parties to deliver positive change. Once again, we will have a Parliament of minorities - so its incumbent upon all parties to work constructively on an issue-by-issue basis. Delivering for the country is the responsibility of every MSP, thus I hope we see a move away from the oppositionist approach that has been apparent for many years.
