An acorn from an Oak tree. I’m not presuming that people are aware of this. It’ll be at least forty years if this acorn takes root in the ground before it’ll produce any seeds. A true autumn sign in England are the scattering of conkers, apples and acorns along with the yellow tints on the tree leaves. . A great light day which neither blew out the colours or enhanced them, it gave an amazing neutral colour as seen in the image. . Delightful Dahlia ~ Often looked at and considered to be a watercolour, it’s a photographic print. The first edition still available after being on display in Hampton Court, Surrey. The image captured in Uxbridge Road, Surbiton on an incredibly hot summers day. The dahlia was growing over the top of a low wall and was partially in the shade. This native wildflower plant hadn’t shared its flowers with me until recently. A fascinating plant that is a food source and releases chemicals through its needle like hairs into me. It has male flowers which have four points in an ‘x’ shape and without a camera I couldn’t see them (swipe for a close up). . Despite being ferocious this Stinging Nettle has some very dainty, pretty flower stems with flashes of purple. . Amazingly considered an exotic plant in some countries. . An ancient woodland identified by the plant species, yesterday along this path were primroses, bluebells, lords and ladies, wood anemone, greater Stitchwort, woodland strawberries and early dog violet. For an English bluebell to grow they need light so you can find them where the canopy hasn’t covered the woodland. One of the unexpected observations is that the floor is still covered with brown, crisp autumn leaves from the trees. It takes 200 years for an oak tree to become sustainable to a variety of species including lichen and insects. . An ancient woodland isn’t identifiable by the animals in it as they are so elusive. In this wood we see roe deer and hares. Just waiting for the moment a wild cat appears. .
