YVONNE ARNAUD £5.8M TRANSFORMATION 🎭 The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre is set to be given a massive overhaul this Summer, having benefitted from a £3m cash injection from Surrey County Council, topped up by its own in-house fundraising initiatives. The iconic building in Guildford will be transformed into a cultural community hub with theatre at its core. Improvements include an interior and exterior makeover, improved accessibility with more lifts, remodelled public spaces including a new multipurpose community room and environmental sustainability works including replacing outdated electrical and mechanical services with energy efficient alternatives. Samuelson Mausoleum Hidden in the grounds of Chatley Heath. Overlooked and overshadowed by Semaphore Tower. I came across this by mistake while knowing about the Semaphore tower in the area there was nothing to say about this Mausoleum being here. Though what a great hidden find! The Mausoleum was built in 1919. It is covered in English, Latin and Greek text. Emblazoned with the Samuelson coat of arms and family motto ‘Post Tenebras Lux’ – after darkness comes dawn. Elsewhere on the tomb was the inscription ‘By my own works before the night, great Overseer, I make my prayer’ which might point to Sir Bernhard being part of the Freemasons. Brainchild of original curator Hannah Peschar, and together with her husband - the renowned landscape designer Anthony Paul @anthonypaulgardendesign , the Sculpture Garden came to life in the early 1980s. Challenging the norms of displaying art, Hannah sought to create harmony between art and nature - placing each sculpture carefully within the landscape to celebrate and enhance both the work and the surrounding nature. Bluebell season is possibly my favourite time of the year, as many of you know... I've been to quite a few bluebell woods, but this one definitely will make it into my top five! And it's SO close to where we live. Absolutely stunning. After SO many years of chatting and saying we should go for a walk together, I finally met up with lovely @surrey_snaps and she took me around. I've been to this wood, but not this part; I never knew this existed! Such a treat, thank you. 💜 Now thay bluebells are out.... can we get a little more sunshine & warmth? Meet Jane! Jane is a professional painter & teacher with a passion for watercolour although lately has also been exploring oils. These two photos from the top of the hill are actually taken from the same spot, well over 100 years apart. The look out from behind the Grub Street cricket pitch / air raid shelters is a former postcard view point looking down over Limpsfield village. The buildings in the old photo, though now very different from the outside, are still there today - Rodney House and Rodney Cottage; formerly The Lord Rodney pub, a coaching inn and one of 5 pubs in Limpsfield back in the day, and the stables next to it.
