This is quite uncommon in Britain, so nice to see a colony doing great - and at various stages of development. Orange Jelly Spot (posh name: dacrymyces chrysospermus) Inedible Lives on coniferous wood. This fungus has a small orangey-yellow 1-3 cm high x 1-6 cm wide fruting body with brain like lobes, and attaches to the wood with a white rooting attachment at the base. RARE fungi alert Red Banded Polypore (posh name: fomitopsis pinicola) Inedible Went back to check on this group of rare mushrooms I found previously to see how they are developing. The red colour and varnished appearance of the younger fruiting bodies is really starting to come in now. However these are right by a busy dog walking path and aren't in the best condition- and indeed one had been snapped off. Still that gives an opportunity to look at the cross section now, and you can see very pale brown hard flesh growing as a layer of tubes on this deadwood. The polyporous undersurface is pale-yellow/brown. Overall, we can consider all this even more evidence of the ID - as when I found these first they were quite young. Tentatively ID’d as Amanita franchetii, also known as the Franchet's Amanita/ Gilded Amanita, because I found it under massive old oak trees, which is their favoured tree, and the veil remnants are yellow in colour. Sometimes you have to look well above the forest floor to find fungi. Here's something quite rare and protected in the UK, Lion's Mane fungus (Hericium Erinaceus). It was well above 15ft up in this old beech tree safe from pickers.
