Baby Ika vs Adult Ika (taken one year apart) here is her story!! ⬇️⬇️ While living in Rarotonga, We found Ika on one of the back roads of the island. She was covered in fleas and makeup and had a blue, glazed over eye (very obviously mistreated by the family she was living with). After asking around and finding out that the family was moving overseas in a few weeks, she was surrendered to us. The next morning we took her to the vet for a checkup, they said her eye was too severely damaged and would have to be removed. •GRIEF• The last month has been tough … We went to Boorloo (Perth) for hubby’s uncle’s funeral on April 12th and then, my uncle David passed away on Friday … This has landed very heavy … he’s the eldest brother of my bio mother … and she has been RIP for almost 30 years … of course before I had a chance to meet her. So many mixed feelings; trying to figure out how to process them is reallllyyyyy tricky. How do you grieve for someone you never knew? Why does the body feel it so deeply? How do I connect to a family that barely knows me? All land in the Cooks belongs to the native population and is passed down from generation to generation; any new construction project has to abide by the law that a building may not be taller than a palm tree. And if you drive around the island you'll notice there's always a palm tree taller than the building next to it. Filtered water is free for everyone - tourists and locals alike; there are various water stations dotted around Rarotonga granting access to filtered water 24/7. And despite the myriad of wild chickens roaming the island there's pretty much always a shortage of eggs.. I think the boat that was supposed to come in two weeks ago still hasn't made it. Hi there, it’s been a while between posts and while the break has been healthy, there is much to say and catch up on. We arrived home to Australia a few months ago after 18 long and glorious months in Rarotonga, a little island in the middle of the Pacific. We all genuinely miss its sparkling beauty and our forever friends and family we made whilst there. Meanwhile, we are ever grateful to come home to the garden and get back into life here surrounded by birds, plants and the people we’ve missed. I have been working hard to get my nursery back into production and have been planting like crazy to get the food crops in for the year.
