You will have the opportunity to create a felt heart to form part of a collective piece to be exhibited as part of our "Finding Hope In Grief" - Art Exhibition. No art or sewing experience is necessary - we will have volunteers to assist on the day. I am praying for a family and even community today. As the memories of the year anniversary of me being in the hospital with sepsis and kidney failure was approaching, I knew with dread another anniversary was approaching for another family. My daughter has been dealing with the grief and we’ve been supporting her through this as well. I’m asking for all of the prayers or thoughts today and the coming days because as you know, the body remembers. Even if they try to fill their days with things to stay busy, etc… something will happen to make them wonder why did that affect me like that? Because it’s trauma. 'Why?'' by Gail Poole For Mummy Ji, I miss you endlessly, every day. My Mum was a beautiful, bubbly, formidable, kind, incredibly intelligent, hilarious and deeply religious woman. She was my rock and my anchor. Mum came here in the mid 1970s, alone, a single woman from Dehradun, India to settle in Highbury and Islington, to fulfil her dreams of a legal career. This took huge bravery at a time when Indian woman were expected to live the life of a housewife by their mid thirties and they rarely travelled unaccompanied, let alone to live alone in a new country far from home, where they could face many challenges including racism. But that was my Mum - brave, fearless, determined. She could fluently speak Punjabi (in various dialects), Hindi, Urdu and English, and also Pashto and some Gujurati. She helped so many in her time. She helped me endlessly and still does. She cared for my Dad with such devotion. She knitted the best jumpers, scarves and ponchos, weaved with love. I miss her a tremendous amount. I was blessed to have such a wonderful Mummy. She was so strong, my Mummy mountain. Rabh rakha (may God keep you and bless you). Today I remember a photoshoot with my girls. My amazing friend Stephanie @stephanietmcintyre was starting her photography business @stephaniemcintyrephotography and offered to do a shoot with us. There was definitely a part of me that didn’t want to but decided to do it anyway. Let’s be real, doing a photoshoot can be really annoying! Ha! You’ve got to figure out what you’re gonna wear, get all dolled up, and then walk around and pose awkwardly! The girls and I had never done a shoot just the 3 of us so despite the annoyance of getting it together and the fact that Wynn didn’t have much hair we did it. I decided that this was a part of her journey so it was ok to do a professional photoshoot while in that phase of her treatment. I now have such beautiful memories of me and the girls and these pictures are priceless to me. I could not be more grateful that I went through with it. The moral of this post…. Stop to smell that flower, even if it makes you a little late. Schedule that photoshoot with your family, even if you know the kids will pitch a fit. Stop to watch that sunset, clouds passing by, or take that moonlit hike. Call that friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Tell someone you love them. Pull your camera out even if it’s inconvenient and take that picture of your kid being silly. None of us are guaranteed any more than this moment right now. This little beauty is on its way to the ‘Living with Death’ exhibition at Leeds Museum… I’ll be honest, imposter syndrome is in full swing at the moment. I’m very nervous about having my memorial work on display. But excited all at the same time. This style of ring was actually the last design I ever showed my Dad, he loved it and he gave me all kinds of lovely praise when I showed him it. He was proud as punch when he saw it- as always. We lost my aunt this week. She lit up a room when she walked in with her bold fashion sense and bright smile. She was always immaculately dressed and took great pride in her appearance with her golden locks and smoky dark eyes. She loved her family dearly and was so proud of them. When I was younger she would gather up bric-a-brac and sell it at car boot sales at the weekend with my gran. She was also a qualified hairdresser. I have fond memories of the times spent with her and will treasure them forever. One of the most recent ones was from her 70th birthday party at the Hilton Garden Inn down by the River Clyde.
