Coming out of retirement and walking in The Tip-Off Fashion Show blessed my whole entire soul!!! I haven’t acted or modeled in the 6 years since my brain injury. I’ve always felt sad and frustrated that my former passion was stolen from me by my injury, but thanks to my friend @4nava for encouraging me to apply and @tall_girls_united for choosing me, I got to not only walk the runway again but also meet some incredible women designers, artists and other models. My anxiety almost kept me from stepping back out there, but I’m so thankful that I overcame my fears and self doubt. It was an amazing experience for me! People see me from the outside and have no idea the battles I face because of my brain injury. That’s a blessing and a curse at times, but I’ll never stop pushing myself and trying! Happy 2024 y’all! As this new chapter opens to us closing 2023, so does the era of “Briy” as a model/actor. The past year has allowed me to see the privilege in applying my talents, grit, work ethic and personal brand to something else… I created a new career path for myself that aligns with who I am outside of modeling & fashion and I am immensely proud that I was able to learn that about myself. On a less positive note, modeling just hasn’t been doing it for me lately. I can’t discuss this without addressing the parts I hated.. the ego maniacs, the clout chasing, the rise of AI and lack of actual fashion design… all while not paying me what I know I’m worth. I had the body. I had the face. I even had the opportunity to walk for Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein a few times, and let me just say: being in the same space as Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell was EVERYTHING you would imagine. If you aren’t old enough to understand - it’s like standing next to Taylor Swift. On stage. 😱 It’s hard, as we age, to see these changes in our skin. And even more so for somebody like me who was used to carrying the perfect package in my younger years. As time has evolved, so have I. And my lines, scars and blemishes tell my story. If you’re considering Botox or fillers, I would only make one request: please sleep on it. Not just for one night, but for several.
