I caved and decided to try another desktop amp and move some things around. The Fosi has some punch behind it, but it's never really sounded great - even with an external DAC. The @rslspeakers IA255.1 has an integrated high pass filter and 55w @ 4Ω, so nothing incredibly powerful. At >90hz, you'd have to have it cranked to even utilize half that anyway. Drive-By Truckers - "American Band" (2016). Astute observers will notice that this album cover has appeared in the background of all of my posts. DBT is one of my all-time favorite bands. A lot of people say this is their most political album. It's not really. It's just the first one that didn't primarily filter its political statements through Southern gothic vignettes. And it's certainly more explicit about current events than previous albums. It's also the first one since very early in their career that doesn't feature cover art from Richmonder Wes Freed, who we lost recently (though he did the label and the cover of the included "Kinky Hypocrite" 7" single). I really like this album. It isn't my favorite DBT record, but it's very good. A lot of range here, musically, lyrically, and emotionally. Astute observers will also notice that my setup has changed. It's just temporary. I'm auditioning an @rslspeakers Speedwoofer 10s MKII. Let me tell you, it's a massive upgrade from my cheap Dayton Audio sub (which I love, especially for the price). Taken pre-surgery but pretty sure this is what is meant when someone says they’re living in the middle of something. For me, I’m living in the middle of hifi and I had the great pleasure of filming my last unboxing video pre-procedure, which was of the @rslspeakers CG25 reference monitors! Doc’s orders are to stay in bed so I’ll be editing the video as I can (honestly not quite there yet where I can focus without pain for longer periods of time), so please stay tuned.
