See it in our store at triangleheadbooks.com Number 2 in the #California Writers of the Land Series, this is a story of the Santa Lucias and the wild coast 15 miles below Monterey. The book is a large folio with 64 pages. The pages were printed letterpress on mouldmade paper made by Cartiere Enrico Magnani in Pescia, Italy. Printmaker Wikstrom produced six blocks to illustrate the narrative. There were also a number of blocks produced for page illustrations. Bound in Dutch linen hand screened with a decorative design, the book is stunning.

Glasgow: Santa Lucia Italian lovers this ones for you… @santaluciamerchantcity The cutest restaurant in Merchant City serving the best Italian about. The interior is so unique and cute, with lemons dotted about everywhere, we just LOVED it. The vibes in the restaurant were immaculate aswell! We got: Tagliatelle Al Pollo: pasta with chicken, baby spinach, sun dried tomatoes and a touch of cream. This pasta was just WOW, EPIC, SPEECHLESS. You need need need to try it, we can say all the words but you have to experience it to get the full effect. Margherita Pizza: A very tastyyyy pizza, not every Italian pizza hits the spot but this one defos does. Simple but 😍 Brushchetta Pesto Rosso: sundried pesto tomatoes, rocket, goats cheese and black olive powder. This was quite unique and a different taste, but okay. Aracine Al Tartufo: rice balls with mushrooms, black truffle served with parmesan fondue. Their parmesan isnt halal for we asked for without. We hadnt tried anything like this before… you’ll either like it or you won’t, we won’t be ordering it again tho 🙈 For sides we got the chunky chips with truffle which went perfectly with our mains. For dessert we got Torta Caprese al cioccolato: this was so rich in taste and SO GOOD, perfect end to the meal. The staff were so kind and friendly, tending to every need. They also kindly gave us a discount of our bill, but it would be worth it regardless how much it costs. This morning I grabbed an hour to paint the light on the hills East of Nepenthe. Each painting is painted in oils, en plein aire, on 9” x12” primed wood. These sizes fit into my pochade so I can transport them easily. The priming color was a mix of yellow and magenta in varying degrees - resulting in a rich orange. In some areas, where my brush never quite landed, that color peeks through. Kind of perfect for this heat wave we’re having.

I remember where a toad may live and what time the birds awaken in the summer -- and what trees and seasons smelled like -- how people looked and walked and smelled even. The memory of odors is very rich.”- East of Eden Subtleties in expressions of earth and minerality, long overlooked in perfumery in favor of synthetics and filtering has often been expressed as the synthetic copy or industrial made geosmin molecule. The real geosmin itself along with the zillion other things that impart an earth smell can have a different aromatic every different place in the natural world. And that has to do with the or orchestra of other things it exists within. Isolate it and you’ve missed the story entirely. From the wine and the farming world the mere suggestion that the smell of earth is that simple and linear is shocking. Minerality is best expressed through whole ingredients that express the land they were grown in (climate, distillation etc) and function most beautifully without synthetics that operate on a different channel than they do (the loudness of industrial molecules nose blocks terrior expression). The rose I have from Georgia is world different from the Bulgarian, French and Saudi roses sitting on my perfume organ. That is because it’s expressing earth differently and that is why I am careful to never overfilter that land expression out. Please take a moment this weekend and smell the earth near you. Grab a hand of soil and smell. I think moths might actually be angels? Spotted this precious fuzz fairy in a mixed grassland/oak woodland while out and about today. The internet says it is a pacific green sphynx moth (Proserpinus lucidus), and that during the winter/spring the females will sit stationery, not eat a single thing, and emit a pheremone to attract males. It's the last day of a pretty rough year. There's no denying or ignoring the bad things that happened, yet we must push forward into the future regardless. First seen by #NativeAmericans more than 12,000 years ago, The #darkwatchers of #California are a group of mysterious dark #human-like #creatures who stand on the hills, ridges, and peaks of the #SantaLuciaMountains. They watch those who wander into the mountains and are not aggressive. They are most often spotted around #twilight and are usually seen staring upwards toward the sky while standing atop the #mountains. They seem to be some sort of #spirits however their origins are currently unknown. They’ve been seen many times over the years, with stories about them dating back to #ChumashIndian #legends. They were seen by, and are mentioned in the short story "Flight" by #JohnSteinbeck and the #iconoclastic #poet #RobinsonJeffers wrote about “forms that look human…but certainly are not human” in his poem, “Such Counsels You Gave to Me.” Sometime in the mid-sixties, a #MontereryPeninsula local and former high school principal went on a hiking trip in the #SantaLucias when he suddenly spotted a dark figure in a hat and a cape, standing on a rock and surveying the area. When the principal called out to the other hikers, the creature vanished. More sightings continue to be made to this day, most recently by airplane pilots who are flying near the #CaliforniaCoastline.
