Oftentimes, villains are created as static characters that are merely plot conventions created to give the hero a hard time in achieving their goal. ⠀ But it’s so rewarding when there is a complex villain. 👺 ⠀ Thanos was so intriguing because he wasn’t evil for the sake of being evil. Socratic irony is a fun device to use to add tension to a scene. ⭐️ ⠀ In the movie, The Lion King, Scar used this method to trick a young Simba into going into hyena territory. Screenplay Structure Game, Step 14 ⠀⠀ In the previous step, our antagonist ambushed the protagonist after the moment of triumph. ⠀ Earlier in our story game, we have defined our protagonist's internal need. Such need is, almost in all cases, is the *need to change*, to eliminate a certain weakness. ⠀⠀ Now it's time for the antagonist to exploit that weakness in the protagonist, by setting – ⠀⠀ – The Trap. ⠀⠀ In order for the trap to be effective, it has to be in some way appealing to the protagonist. That appeal is always personal and emotional and it connects to the protagonist's external goal. ⠀⠀ The pattern for this step is: ⠀⠀ lays the trap for , by . ⠀⠀ (Or you can do it freestyle, ad long as the elements are there or even implied.) ⠀⠀ The Trap should be placed immediately after The Ambush. ⠀⠀ Please see two examples in the comments!

Set up an obligatory confrontation by showing multiple "rehearsals", making the audience expect the lead character to win it... and then – – when the confrontation happens, solve it entirely differently revealing the fallacy of the antagonist who thought he could win.

If the stakes are high, people do what they normally wouldn't. This makes story stakes work as plausibility device.
