La Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción y de San Frutos de Segovia, conocida como la Dama de las Catedrales por sus dimensiones y su elegancia. De estilo gótico con algunos rasgos renacentistas. Es una de las catedrales góticas más tardías de España y de Europa, erigida en pleno siglo xvi (1525-1577), cuando en la mayor parte de Europa se difundía la arquitectura renacentista. El Cabildo de la Catedral es el administrador del templo. En marzo de 2023, el Palacio Episcopal de Segovia fue reabierto y, actualmente, se puede visitar la Catedral y el Palacio Episcopal con entrada única. Getting off the island and exploring other parts of Spain is one of the privileges we have living here. A few weeks ago, we made a very special trip to explore one of our national treasures, the @paradores in and around Madrid. Talk about reconnecting with history, architecture, design and culture! In Segovia, for example, the majestic cathedral - built between 1525 and 1577 - was peppered with colors and textures and patterns that just took our breath away. We climbed all the way up to the top to hear the birds and take in the sweeping views of this beautiful city. Getting out and finding inspiration in old buildings, in different cities, and around different people is key to feeding our creativity. Deszczowa i zimna hiszpańska weselna Wielkanoc, dzień 4 (poniedziałek). Poweselne zwiedzanie (wcześniej była Plasencia, wczoraj była Segovia). Przejechać trzeba było przez Sierra de Gredos, czyli najwyższe pasmo Gór Kastylijskich (Sistema Central) w obrębie Mesety Iberyjskiej. Podsumowując: Wielkanoc w Hiszpanii czy Wielkanoc w Tatrach? Tak! Pogoda zrobiła nam prima aprilis i lany poniedziałek w jednym - Warszawa 26 stopni (25,8 na stacji meteo Warszawa Filtry) vs Plasencia i Segovia max 8, odczuwalna 1, wiatr, deszcz, grad, w górach śnieg... 🥶 Ale przynajmniej było pięknie. Recap of my time in Segovia, Spain ✨ This is the Segovia Aqueduct, a water-conveyance structure built under the Roman emperor in the 1st century (reigned 98–117 CE) and it was used to carry water 16 km (10 miles) from the Frío River to the city of Segovia, Spain. How freakin’ cool is this and to think it’s still in use today, is actually mind-blowing 🤯🤯 I also got to visit Alcázar Segovia which is a medieval castle that has existed since at least the 12th century and the beautiful Segovia Cathedral. The previous cathedral of Segovia had stood adjacent to the Alcazar, and had been used by the royal armies in defending the latter against siege. The rebellious Comuneros were intent on taking the cathedral to protect its holy relics, and to use its position against the walls of the Alcazar in order to defeat its defenders. In a famous exchange, prominent city officials urged the comuneros to halt their attacks on the church, saying they should consider the injustice of razing so sumptuous a temple while making war against those who, serving their king, defended his Alcazar. But their plea fell on deaf ears, and the comuneros replied: la Iglesia era de la Ciudad (the Church belonged to the City). After a bitter siege lasting months, the cathedral lay in ruins.

The city has 3 main landmarks - a Roman aqueduct, the cathedral (one of the last ones to be built in Europe in a Gothic style), and the medieval castle, which inspired Walt Disney’s Cinderella Castle. The city center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985. The Aqueduct of Segovia is the defining historical feature of the city, dating from the late 1st or early 2nd century AD. It consists of about 25,000 granite blocks held together without any mortar, and spans 818 meters with more than 170 arches, the highest being 29 metres high. It is still used to deliver drinking water. The Alcazar of Segovia is a the royal palace built on a stone peninsula between the rivers Eresma and Clamores. It dates back to at least 1122. It now houses the General Militar de Segovia archive and museum of the Royal School of Artillery, managed by the Board of the Alcazar. However it’s clearly something out of a fairytale book! Segovia Cathedral The building's structure features three tall vaults and an ambulatory, with fine tracery windows and numerous stained glass windows. The interior is characterized by unity of style (late Gothic), except for the dome, built around 1630 by Pedro de Brizuela. The Gothic vaults are 33 meters high by 50 meters wide and 105 long. The bell tower reaches almost 90 meters. The current stone spire crowning the tower, dating from 1614, was erected after a major fire caused by a thunderstorm.
