An Eat Pray Love trip ✨ While I enjoyed the book "Eat, Pray, Love", I also think it romanticized travel to the point where many people now think that every time they leave home they’re going to have a transformative experience. ✈️ But, sometimes travel is simpler than that: a relaxing beach vacation, a stunning hiking trip, a week of delicious food. It has benefits, but it may not exactly change you. 🏖️ But, what about when it does? 🤔 Personally, I have always found that the trips that truly impact you are the ones that take you out of your comfort zone. 😅 One trip that comes to mind for me is Mongolia. Not only did the adventures—from biking in the Gobi Desert to hiking in the Altai Mountains—challenge me, but I also got to fully immerse myself in a place so different from my own home. ⛰️ I stayed in gers, ate with nomadic families, learned local art techniques from local women, spent time with Aigerim (one of only three female eagle hunters in the Bayan-Ölgii Province), and so much more. 🦅 It was the type of trip that went far beyond sightseeing and relaxing and is one that has really stuck with me, even almost a year later. ❤️ What trip has made the biggest impact on you?💥 #BeyondTheGuidebook
“I never want to settle down,” was something I frequently said in my young 20s, at the beginning of my solo travel journey. ✈️ That was when I’d leave for months to backpack South America, Europe, Asia, and anywhere else I could find a cheap flight. What's the worst piece of travel advice you've ever received? 🤔 Along with "don't travel solo" - which I obviously don't listen to 😉 - I'd have to say "don't talk to strangers" would be high on my list. ✅ In my experience, not talking to strangers during your travels only prohibits you from truly experiencing the local culture and enjoying yourself. 🌎 Interacting with locals is how you’ll learn about everyday life, customs, rituals, business, food, clothing, and other facets of local life. 🥘 Additionally, conversing with other travelers and exchanging tales from the road makes the trip more interesting, and gives you people to explore with. The fear of not seeing my boyfriend (and family and friends) again. Summed up to: The fear of dying on my trip! The fear is probably what abstain people from travelling solo, but doing it anyway is what makes it exiting. Travelling, despite your fears, gives the adrenalin, the confidence and the dopamine kick! Today it was harder to say goodbye to my boyfriend than it’s been the last couple of times. I miss him in advantage and feel really gloomy 🥹 I know it’s my own choice that I haven’t been home a lot for 3/4 of a year - and I could just stay home, but I’ve had this year planned to travel. This time I just wasn’t ready to leave him already. Three weeks at home didn’t feel like enough time when we’ve been so much apart. We always hug and cuttle more before I leave. ‘Cause again, what if it’s the last time we get to spend together!? Now, that Im on the train and on my way to Germany I feel exited and I have butterflies in my tummy. 𝙃𝙖𝙠𝙪𝙣𝙖 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙖 ☀️❤️ It’s not just a motto we learn from Disney’s The Lion King, it’s actually a philosophy they live by in Tanzania. Although they also say Hakuna shida, which means ‘no worries’ in a more local Swahili way. You can feel the Hakuna matata vibe when you meet the local people. No one is in a hurry. They are always pretty chilled and take every situation with a smile on their face. Coming from a first world country where everyday life can be pretty hectic and everybody is in a hurry it can take some getting use to the slow tempo in Tanzania. To be honest I think it’s a much more healthy way to live your days, more slowly and less stressful. Tanzania definitely did something good for my body and mind, and I think a lot of people can benefit from living the ‘Hakuna matata-way’. Now that I’m home for a little while I will try to continue this way of living in my own life in Scandinavia, which has been way too stressful for a long time. 𝘚𝘦𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘨𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘩… After spending two nights in a cheap hotel and one night in a luxury hotel it was time to move on to my last hotel in Zanzibar. I had just stayed in an area called Uroa, which from the outside looked really poor. When the taxi driver took me through the village I saw houses that looked like shacks or shelters, where I come from, I saw a child driving an old bike that was way too big for him, I saw other children playing with the little things they’ve got, and grownups trying to sell a few vegetables at their very small stall to earn just a bit of money on a Saturday. Their poverty was crystal clear! Even though I’ve seen this many times before on my travels in Asia and also when I arrived to Zanzibar, it made feel an emotional pain in my stomach for their life situations and conditions. I couldn’t help but comparing my life to theirs and thinking about what I just came from; I luxury hotel where everything was amazing and another hotel where I at least had a room with a proper bed and ocean view. They didn’t have any of it. ‘Cause even though their properties were located near the ocean, the touristic hotels were blocking their view! We drove by a hospital, where I’m not sure I would have let anybody help me, if I was sick. From the outside it looked like it had been closed and not touched for years! I asked my driver if it was closed down. He answered: “Yes, because it’s Saturday. It’s closed in the weekends. In the weekend we have to go to a private clinic.” It was choking news to me… They probably wouldn’t be able to pay for help at a private clinic, and their local hospital (which looked like shit) was closed - hopefully no one gets sick in the weekend! Once again it just made me realise how lucky I am! To first of all be able to travel and visit their beautiful country, but second of all to grow up in a country were I want to go and can get help at a hospital - and without even paying for it. Life can seem so unfair sometimes…
