Today is #remembermethursday a day to promote pet adoption and to remember the pets who unfortunately will not live out their lives with loving families. Ralphie and Bellini are lighting their candle tonight to remember those pets. 🕯️ Today is a day to share adoption stories with the hope that this will encourage others to adopt homeless pets! Bellini was adopted from lcas_howell last November. She had been turned in to the shelter a month earlier, with a scraggly coat full of live fleas. Her owner said she was a "stray". She came home with us the first time for a short term Thanksgiving week foster visit, just to get a break from life in the shelter. She went back to the shelter the next week to meet a new family! Even though they were very nice, she decided that she'd already found her forever home. We brought her back home the next day!! ♥️ Today she's fluffy and flea-free! Ralphie was born in a puppy mill with congenital back leg deformities due to poor breeding that was more focused on making money than raising healthy puppies. He was sold at a pet store in Nashville, TN as a purebred Jack Russell Terrier (which he's not). A few months later he was on his way to a high kill shelter. May the 4th be with you… Day 4 of #EDSAwarenessMonth and #MyEDSChallenge is ‘Shine a light on EDS’. So let’s do some learning with Baby Yoda… Yoda: “So, what is EDS?” Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) are a group of 13 heritable connective tissue disorders. The most common type, hEDS, causes generalized joint hypermobility, joint instability, and chronic pain. It is caused by genetic changes that affect connective tissue. hEDS is also associated with a range of other symptoms and related conditions that affect many different areas of the body. The average time to diagnosis of EDS is 10-12 years. For some, it can take decades. Yoda: “Okay, what affect does it have?” EDS can affect any connective tissue in the body. It impacts our skin, joints, blood vessels and muscles. It affects all systems. Yoda: “Okay, but what actually is hypermobility?” Joint hypermobility means a person’s joints have a greater range of motion than is expected or normal. Lots of us are hypermobile as children and for up to 20% of people, hypermobility continues into adulthood. Hypermobility that does not cause pain or other symptoms is referred to as “asymptomatic joint hypermobility” and does not need to be treated. The problem occurs when joints are not just hypermobile but are also unstable. Joint instability occurs when the bones of a joint aren’t held in place securely. This can lead to joint dislocations, subluxations, sprains, and other injuries. Joint instability can cause both acute and chronic pain and interfere with daily life. Yoda: “Okay, so what else does EDS mean?” EDS has a lot of indicators. E.g: tissue fragility. This means that the body’s organs and other structures are more vulnerable to damage. “As a child, Mehdi was always a creative and imaginative soul. He enjoyed dressing up and disguising himself to scare me. His favorite time of the year was Halloween. His favorite artist was Michael Jackson. At 3 years old, he could do the moonwalk. Mehdi was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis (NF) when he was a baby. NF is a genetic disorder that refers to three different conditions involving the development of tumors that may affect the brain, spinal cord, and the nerves that send signals between the brain and spinal cord, and all other parts of the body. When he was 12, he had a brain tumor that turned out to be benign. The doctor was able to remove it. He never complained once. He had another in his torso that was taken out too. Later on, a sarcoma grew inside of his left thigh, this time, he didn’t take care of it right away. His leg had swollen. By the time my parents learned about it, it was too late. The tumor had grown too big, and it was no longer operable. We were devastated. We had no idea he would not survive. I miss him so much. In 2007, Mehdi moved to LA to live with me, where he attended the NY Film Academy School. Initially, he wanted to be an actor, then switched to directing. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting for Film in September 2015. Before graduation, he made a short video about living with NF. I watched it with tears in my eyes, filled with pride for everything my brother had accomplished in such a short amount of time. I knew he was destined for greatness. Sadly, Mehdi’s life was cut tragically short, and he passed away on January 18th, 2018, at the age of 28. In memory of my angel brother, I want to help others realize how lethal NF can be. I am on the European board of directors for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. Our goal is to spread awareness and raise funds to find a cure. Mehdi was a hero, NF Avenger, a handsome young man adored by so many. Сегодня у нас в школе прошла традиционная пасхальная ярмарка. Как же здорово, что в этом году нам повезло со временем и погодой. Было солнечно и тепло, и ярмарка расположилась на улице - прямо под окнами школы и цветущими деревьями. Так много покупок, как сегодня, я кажется не уносила за все свои три предыдущих ярмарки. Было очень много красоты и вкусняшек. Как всегда, родители и дети порадовали интересным хэнд-мейдом. Я даже на косметику сегодня соблазнилась, которая каким-то образом оказалась на лавке у 4 "А". И не устояла перед красивыми пасхальными венками ручной работы. Сделаны родителями с любовью и душой. Впишу в интерьер своей комнаты после Пасхи. Понравилось, что некоторые дети сегодня пришли в ярких костюмах персонажей игр или аниме. Получился мини косплей-фестиваль. А еще кто-то привел на ярмарку своих домашних питомцев. Не могла оторваться от собачки на одном из фото. В общем набегалась, накупила красоты и пасхальных пряников, наобщалась со всеми своими любимыми-любимыми ребятами и даже их родителями. Было жалко, что все так быстро закончилось. Один из прекрасных дней в любимой школе❤️ #love #shinealight

Such a surreal day… Woke up @ 5:15am ET in Grand Rapids, MI ⛈️ to fly to Dallas-Fort Worth 🌦️☔️ Arrived @ 9am CT, got luggage & rental car, brunch with mom & friends @ 11am. Warmed up at Spirit Extreme gym & prepared for comp approx. 2hrs. Monitored @halloffamedance livestream & arrived 2.5hrs prior to scheduled time (comp was ahead an hourish). Competed both my lyrical & acro solos against 22 other advanced 9-11yo routines. Received… 🎀 “Beautifully Fluid” judges award for my lyrical solo 🥈 Overall for my acro solo 🏆 @halloffamedance 2024 inductee award for the highest combined scores for my solos 😳🤩🥹 So many thoughts & emotions. Thankful. Humbled. Beyond blessed. Excitement. Awe. Was a day I will always remember & my weekend in Dallas is only just beginning!
