Last month Lucy was invited to take part in Bents Green special school careers week to talk to the students about what it is like working in shop. She supported to students in a role play activity, to take it in turns being the customer and the shopkeeper, an activity which they all really enjoyed. As well as talking about the skills you need to work in a shop, such as being friendly and helpful. Bents Green provides specialist education for young people aged 11-19 with Autistic Spectrum Conditions and communication and interaction difficulties. I'm late to the game, but I've joined the @pencilmeinshop #myshoplife2024 8-day challenge! Day 1 Shop Front Here is our beautiful shop front, find us across from the amazing Blossom tree! What a view 🩷 We are so proud of our Shop Front - it didn't always look like this (sneak peek on the last pic), more to be revealed, watch this space! Myself, Emma and my Mum Deb opened the shop in 2019 after Deb 'retired' and Emma ran a successful furniture upcycling side hustle that was growing and so needed a workshop (you'll see why this shop was a good fit on day 6) as soon as we started we realised the potential in the shop and the furniture upcycling soon became a thing of the past! Exactly a year after we opened COVID hit and we were forced to close. But we didn't let this get us down, we have a community of makers in the shop and we all pulled together to create care packs for nurses, customers donated money to help us provide more packs, they also donated buttons for us to attach to hundreds of headbands for key workers who were getting sores from wearing the masks, and donated these where we could. We made and sold fabric face masks in pretty fabrics to make us look as stylish as we could! How is it Thursday and halfway through April? The time keeps flying by and there's much to do with a very busy schedule over the next couple of months. 🥳 I've just discovered heishi beads (see the photo) and I think they're gorgeous, especially as they're made from clay and come in so many different colours. These are the new strands of heishi beads that I received in the post today and I can’t wait to get designing with them and creating some colourful designs. There will be bracelets, I know that much! Bracelets are something I've been working on recently because I've been finding some rather beautiful beads that I just had to incorporate into my jewellery. I haven't had time to take any photos of them, but they proved a big hit at the Sheffield Plastic Free Market last Sunday when I debuted them and I'll get them on here and the website ASAP. I also had silver versions of our best-selling Celestial Cloud earrings which I still haven't had time to get onto the website and are now my priority. Apologies to anyone who's been waiting for them, but it won't be long now. 🪴 The Plastic Free Market was a great success and thanks to everyone who came down to Trafalgar Warehouse. I met so many lovely people and I got so many great ideas for living an eco-friendlier life (did anyone else get their free @bamboobobbi toilet roll?).
