Looking for a Spring family-friendly hike when you stay with us on the Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park? Try Siffleur Falls and Canyon! The trail crosses the Saskatchewan River on a suspension bridge. The first views are of the canyon from a fenced trail and at 3.5 km there are excellent views of the falls. Most people end their hike here, but 2.5 km and 4 km further up the trail are two more waterfalls. An almost frozen Siffleur Falls. Sometimes after a several days of severe cold, the surface of Siffleur Falls can freeze, but you can still hear the water flowing behind the ice. The trail may be a bit icy in the winter, so proper gear is encouraged. The Siffleur Falls trailhead is about 65 kms west of Nordegg on the David Thompson Highway in Clearwater County, part of the David Thompson Country Tourism Region. The hike is about 7 kms round trip for the first set of falls and is considered easy to moderate. There are outhouses open all year at the trail head. Please help reduce garbage and waste on the trail and at trailheads by taking home whatever you brought in. For those looking for services Nordegg has gas stations, a hotel, restaurants, and many lodges and cabins to rent. I came, I conquered!!โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ Today started with a LONG car ride. When we got to our destination, I was greeted with smells that I have never encountered before. Everything was so clean, fresh and animal smells everywhere. We went for a short walk down to a river then we conquered the real reason we came. It was this special bridge. It was cold & feels strange under me feet. You can see right through the bottom, & I think it started moving. It was really long, why does it need to be so long? There seamed to be lots of ground under the bridge. No worries, I just followed my raiser @ronk_24 all the way across. I got a really big treat at the other end. Not sure why, but Iโll take all the treats that he gives me. Then we went on a nice walk in the woods all the way to an ice waterfall. We meet lots of other dogs ๐ถ on the walk. I did okay, it was after all my first hike ever. but there is room for improvement. That means they have to take me on more hikes. I can do that. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ Before heading home we went onto the ice lake and looked at the bubbles in the ice. It was slippery & windy so we did not stay long. It was a really long drive home, but thatโs okay because I was kind of tired. A Winter photo of the Siffleur River Canyon on the hike up to Siffleur Falls. Siffleur Falls is one of the most popular hikes in David Thompson Country. This 7 km easy hike (round trip) is in the Kootenay Plains Ecological Reserve. The trail head and parking area is about 65 kms West of Nordegg on the David Thompson Highway. You cross the North Saskatchewan River and the Siffleur River via bridges, walk on a boardwalk that protects the terrain from human traffic, and get great views of the 1st Siffleur Falls from a few different locations. There are actually 2 more Falls on the river further up, but Summer is a safer time to see them. In the Winter we would recommend some good footwear, possibly even small cleats for part of this trail. Siffleur Falls is a beautiful part of David Thompson Country. Please always keep your dogs on leash and dispose of all waste and garbage appropriately. If you are looking for services Nordegg has 2 gas stations, restaurants, a hotel, and many cabins or lodges to rent. In this series of photos we discovered the David Thompson Highway and stopped at a viewpoint of the North Saskatchewan River. Saw some mountain sheep grazing. Stopped at the Siffleur Falls Trailhead and walked across the bridge. At Abraham Lake we unfortunately did not see the Ice Bubbles but we did see the circles on the lake. It sure was nice for my Mom and Dad to take me back to Siffleur Falls this fall! Last time I was here it was all snowy and we didnโt get to see the falls. Crossing the North Saskatchewan River on the pedestrian suspension bridge over the North Saskatchewan River on the Siffleur Falls Trail in the Kootenay Plains Ecological Reserve. What most people call the Siffleur Falls Bridge is actually the Topham Bridge, named after Corporal Frederick George Topham, a recipient of the Victoria Cross while serving with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion in World War 2. There are memorials at the trail head dedicated to the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion and 5 mountain peaks to the southwest also named in the unitโs honour. Ex Coelis Mountain is named after the Battalion's motto, which means "From the Clouds". Iโm mostly doing building work and the closest I get to painting is piling ceiling boards these days, but I finally managed to finish up this beauty last week and drop it off at the @beehive_artisans_market in Nordegg. โSunny Siffleurโ, 16x20โ, acrylic on canvas. For #waterfallwednesday , here are three (yes three!!!!) waterfalls in David Thompson Country. The first one, Crescent falls, is my favourite and it's also closed until June 2024 so this is an old photo. I'm really excited to see the improvements made to the area when it re-opens. The second one, Siffleur Falls, is just such a great hike. It's easy, has very little elevation gain and there are a ton of things to see along the way. Suspension bridges, canyons and of course waterfalls. The third one, White Goat falls, of also a pretty easy hike and features a sketchy little log bridge to cross a creek, which is fun!
