These X-Ray "bone" records were made from my collection of X-Rays that have become increasingly hard to find, but I miraculously managed to salvage a handful at garage sales, thrift shops & carboot sales over the years and also includes some of myself: from age 11 (hit by a car), age 15 (passenger princess car accident), and age 17 (accident at my construction site side hustle). X-Ray records, aka "bone music" or "Ribs", were originally made in the 1950s～60s by punks enduring the soviet era to smuggle western music which was considered to be a "criminally hooligan trend" and consequently banned from broadcasting at the time, into their country that had strict policies and regulations against foreign influences. Ravi Shankar “Concerto For Sitar & Orchestra”, released in 1971. I have loved Indian classical music for more than four decades now. Especially these days, I love listening to it. You can really lose yourself in it and find peace. A few weeks ago, we went to a concert by Anoushka Shankar in Hamburg. She is known for bringing Indian music together with modern Western trends. But her father was the real pioneer, as he composed and published „East Meets West“ projects in cooperation with the great Yehudi Menuhin already back in the 1960s. In January 1971, seven months before his legendary performance at the Concert for Bangladesh, was the exciting premiere of Ravi Shankar’s “Concerto for Sitar & Orchestra”: Ravi as soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by André Previn. 4月27日 奥渋ペマ・ギャラリーの演奏風景 タブラ立岩潤三さんです。 いつも同じような図柄となってしまうのですが… 今回のトークでは、インドとヨーロッパの吟遊詩人を組み合わせて紹介してみました。ドイツ中世最大の巨匠と言われるWalther von Vogelweideの代表的な歌詞「菩提樹の木の下で」Under der Linden ちょうど西洋菩提樹(リンデン)の好い香りを放つ花が散り落ちる今の季節をうたったもので、朗読しながら自分でも心に染みました。 インドの詩人の方は、ミティラー王国の宮廷詩人だったVidyāpatiの「Lotusの花の咲かない池は味気がない」सरसिज बिनु सरをちょっぴり歌ってみました。 演奏のお品書きはこんな感じ↓ Rāg Bihāg, Tīntāl vilambit & drut মাধব আসিলে মাধবী রাতে । 満月の夜の幸せを描いた曲です。愛の旋律を前半は瞑想風に弾いてみました。 後半Drut の軽快なモチーフ(gat) はアミットロイ師匠に作って頂いたニキル・バナジー風のものでした。 Rāg Komal Reshabh Asawari, Chārtāl kī sawārī, Drut Jhaptāl 荘重なドゥルパドのスタイルを真似してみました。 Jhaptal10拍子に色々な変拍子を入れ込むタブラ立岩潤三さんのラヤ・カリ(polyrhythm) が面白かったです。5×2=10拍子、意外とノリノリでした。 Dhun Rāg Gāvatī, Slow Dīpchandī 軽快な民謡調のはずのDīpchandīを、わざとゆっくり目に、しっとりと弾いてみました。 お越しいただいた皆様、大変ありがとうございました♪ #sitar #tabla #シタール #dhrupad #タブラ #sarod #kirtan #キールタン #ドゥルパド #インド古典音楽 #立岩潤三 #ポリリズム #変拍子 #minnesänger #troubadour #walthervondervogelweide #vidyapati #maithili

Recording sessions are always fun and many times a challenge too! Coming to studio from different environment and coping up with the studio vibe, recordist/ composer’s mindset, understanding and absorbing new tunes (which you had no idea until you enter the studio)and recreating that thought through your instrument in a shortest possible time.
