Happy birthday to Russian composer Tchaikovsky! He is best known for “The Nutcracker”, but also is respected as one of the greatest composers in classical music. There is some literature to say that his mother was diagnosed with epilepsy and passed it on genetically to him. Favorite activities with bébé 🎹 I not-so-secretly hope she has a fervent interest in playing the piano, and clearly I've wasted no time in introducing it to her 😉 This afternoon we saw three greats grace the stage at our local library. (Because when your town is hometown to a world renowned pianist, magical things can happen in unsuspecting places ✨) As a child learning to play the piano in the 90s, Andrew Armstrong may as well have been a household name, and unbeknownst to him, he even put the idea of pursuing a career as a professional pianist in my head. Flash forward, I'd not yet had the opportunity to see him play until today, and what a treat he was along with violinist supreme Grace Park and stunning soprano Indra Thomas. When incredibly talented people who have traveled the world over are even more humble and kind, there's nothing better. Huge thanks to all three of these artists for taking time out of their Sundays to enchant children and parents alike. And how serendipitous that the first time I'd get to see Mr. Armstrong play is while introducing Little One to the musical fine arts, truly one of the finer things in life. Sigh. My best girl by my side, witnessing one of my childhood dreams. I know she won't remember. But I will 🤍 Thank you @andrewarmstrongpianist, @gracejp, and @indrathom for an absolutely delightful show today. We're so lucky you've brought such vibrance to town with @newcanaanchambermusic 🎼 Here's to many more concerts, and to bébé tickling the ivories sooner than later 🤍🖤

Yes, this is a toilet selfie. Bear with me... there is a point to it. There has been a lot of noise over the last few weeks about various big arts organisations allowing audiences to take pictures and videos during their performances. I don't have the brain space to delve too deeply into this right now, as my head is wrapped up in our looming house move. So this is just a quick post to say that this isn't a new phenomenon—just something that has been highlighted in the last week or so, despite being policy for a while. As a performer, an audience member, and a marketer, I can see this from all the various viewpoints. But the most important bit, I feel, is that your audience loves to see themselves in your marketing. And the best way to create this is by asking them to film it themselves. For multiple reasons, too: it creates authentic content, rather than staged; it's cheaper and let's face it, there's no money; and the excitement of the people whose clips you use when they see that the toilet selfie with their girlfriends made it into your promo... well, that's priceless (and will probably result in a significant number of shares and thus increase your reach). This doesn't mean it's OK for your audience to film your entire concert and shove their phones in your face. Of course, that is not OK. To Make a Long Story Short: 500 years of British music presented by Flutes & Frets Clapham Chamber Concerts are delighted to host London-based duo Flutes & Frets. Winners of numerous international competitions including the 2023 International H.I.F Biber Competition, these outstanding musicians present intimate, magnetic performances that exploit the fragility and versatility of their ensemble. Their concerts feature a variety of instruments that enable them to express the colours, gesture and emotions of repertoire from the medieval era through to contemporary. Featuring composers from William Byrd to Ralph Vaughan Williams, the duo will present a programe entitled To Make a Long Story Short, journeying chronologically through 500 years of British music.
