Thanks to the annual Shine Out! Shout Out! Women’s Recreational Hockey tournament, nearly a decade of peer support has been provided to youth affected by mental health and addiction challenges through the creation of the Just Be You peer support program. This initiative, developed in collaboration with community mental health organizations and youth has empowered youth to enhance coping skills, build resilience, establish social connections, and receive information and referrals to mental health, addiction, housing, and social services - all at no cost to them or their families. On September 7, 2024, we will host our annual Shine Out! Shout Out! hockey tournament in Oakville to again raise awareness and funds for youth mental health and the Just Be You program. Join us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people. For individuals facing mental health challenges, social isolation and stigma can impede their recovery. Establishing social connections is pivotal, which is why we focus on supporting the Just Be You peer support program for young people aged 15 to 26. Collages can be representational, abstract, funny, scary, or a combination. Anyone can collage! Last night I had the pleasure and privilidge of watching 2 incredible health care professionals do what they do best... educating, caring, supporting and championing women who suffer from endometriosis These 2 women are held in a very special part of my heart. They held me tight during the hardest time in my life. When I felt the most loneliest. They taught me that I had the power to turn my health around, get my body back in balance and take back control. My body, my choice and my decision All my life from the age of 14 my life had been controlled by synthetic hormones that shut my own natural hormones off, masked abnormal and debilitating periods. The world of medicine silenced my body that was screaming there was something wrong I was never referred to a specialist to investigate why my periods were abnormal and so unbelievably painful Last night @smarta_nutrition and @jackiefairweather27 led an evidence based seminar on how women can reduce symptoms associated with endometriosis. The women last night all had a painful story share and they had also been let down by the system. 7 years is the average length of time it takes to diagnose endometriosis... this is not good enough! Women are made to "get on with it" a disease so debilitating that it takes lives. We need to do better, we need to stand tall and strong together and make change. This community is getting bigger every year.. but the treatment is not effective Let's talk about inflammation. The root cause if it and how working with diet can help.reduce inflammation which then will reduce associated symptoms of inflammation This so something I feel very passionate about. My 14 year self is still traumatised by the lack of support from the medical team Let's do better for women. We are collecting Zakaat, Sadaqah, Lillah etc Our aim is to feed: Family's, homeless people, help the orphanages and give medical essentials as of what and when needed. For those who give in charity, men and women, and loan to Allah a beautiful loan, it shall be increased manifold (to their credit), and they shall have (besides) a liberal reward.” The best transactions we can make in our lives are those with Allah (SWT) in the form of good actions for His sake. As an advocate for vulnerable communities, particularly FGM/C survivors, I'm committed to continuing to uplift and protect their voices. Additionally, I aim to foster an inclusive space that is non-judgmental and survivor-centric while advocating for their best interests without shaming anyone. We survivors are driving positive community impact & are peacemakers. Despite encountering individuals who try to diminish my womanhood because of FGM (Female Genital Mutilation), I refuse to feel ashamed. I am a woman! I created a global Facebook support group for women FGM/C survivors because I realized there was a missing gap for online peer support.It's a private group, and I'm the sole administrator. I screen all membership requests for approval as a precautionary measure to ensure safety, respect privacy, & strictly protect the confidentiality of all members.
