Day Two of Let’s Beat The Algorithm... Today is about a common ADHD myth: “Everyone is a little ADHD” Yeah... No. Really. No. This belittles ADHD and makes us feel even more of a fraud than we already do. It’s like they’re trying to normalise the ADHD challenges, but it has the opposite effect because we can start thinking that if everyone is like this why am I the only one struggling with it? Being a bit forgetful or easily distracted does not stop you functioning in your life. With ADHD our distractedness, forgetfulness, impulsiveness etc impacts our life hugely. It affects how we function. One example is with money - It’s not a bit of impulsive spending. It’s impulsive spending leading to years of debt, bad credit rating and the emotions that come with that. It’s paying the ADHD tax which is when we forget to pay bills, so we’re charged more, forgetting to cancel subscriptions and only noticing when we look at our bank account and then making a mental note to cancel subscription and then noticing we forgot again and repeat. It’s buying that thing with the rent money because the rent money is in the bank account and the thing is so shiny and we only have now. Everything else is not now so doesn’t count. It’s paying extra on a fine because we lost the original fine letter. Time and time again. This is just one example of how not everyone has ADHD. Repeat this scenario for: Time blindness Forgetfulness Out of sight out of mind Exhaustion Rejection sensitivity disorder Unable to sit still Difficulty focusing if not interested Exhaustion from being out in the world masking and the rest... I’ll be looking at all these over the next few months. But TBH if someone starts telling you that everyone has ADHD… Just smile and wave... :) Let me know in the comments if you get this a lot, or what other myths around ADHD you hear?

“Diagnosticare l’autismo in età adulta resta ancora difficile.” In tanti, ieri, hanno parlato e scritto di #lavoro e #inclusione. Per chi, come me, mascherato dall'alto potenziale cognitivo, ha vissuto un percorso professionale ricco di alti e bassi, raggiungendo vette altissime per poi incorrere in inspiegabili – in quel momento – rovinose cadute, costretto a ricominciare daccapo ancora e ancora, in ambienti però rivelatisi ogni volta poco inclusivi, si è trattato dell'ennesima – quotidiana – sagra dell'ipocrisia. La realtà è che sull'autismo manca una corretta informazione, e, ben peggio, anche una adeguata formazione dei professionisti, come mi ha ribadito più volte Paola Di Franco, psicologa e psicoterapeuta cognitivo-comportamentale, che mi ha concesso questa intervista, spiegandomi il suo punto di vista sui problemi riguardanti le diagnosi, e soffermandosi, in particolar modo, proprio su questo aspetto imprescindibile per migliorare l'organizzazione di un sistema che difetta di dialogo tra le parti coinvolte, soprattutto nei riguardi delle istituzioni, chiamate a una rivoluzione culturale che non può più aspettare. The good times during the days out where I’m not overwhelmed by light or noise. The photos that make me look like I was on top of the world, however, being autistic I’m never able to escape myself fully. I eventually get tired and anxious and then everything becomes LOUD. Decals and details tonight! I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the Academy decals, thin with minimal carrier film and settled down snug with micro set and sol. I didn't bother with a gloss varnish as all the paints I have laid down have been gloss finish and everything went smoothly. Started painting up the prop tips with their 3 colours, will be able to get the final red down tomorrow to finish that off. Then I fitted the gun sight with its tiny etch and the tank on the upper wing. Just the glass parts left to mask and fit on the old girl now before a light Flory wash to make the lines pop a bit. So turns out I’m not as tall as I like to think I am! This was another amazing experience that I was able to be my complete self for. I didn’t feel the need to mask at all. I was constantly filled with joy and excitement at all the animals and got to feed them and pet them too. It was a wonderful day. However, with every high there sometimes is a down and afterwards I felt extremely socially burned out and anxious. I start to worry that I won’t be able to sleep and that if I don’t it will ruin the trip. However, I had superwife 🤍to the rescue to talk me through my thoughts, my irrational thinking and gave me safe and quiet time when I needed it. This was able to get me back up quicker and to continue on with our adventures. Even if we had to have a few days of “not doing much”.
