Helping Patients Use Their Imagination: Hospitals can feel alien and isolating, especially for children, often leading to anxiety, stress and sometimes even depression. But studies have found that reading can help uplift one's mood while keeping the mind active and engaged! To help the pediatric patients at South Texas Health System Children's embrace the power of reading, Liam Toledo - a seventh grader at South Texas ISD Preparatory Academy (@southtexasisdpa) - donated more than 125 books to the hospital's library. Liam has been building his library since August 2023. A recent corporate sponsorship has allowed him to expand his collection to more than 1,500 books. Bonjour à tous ! Aujourd'hui, je souhaite vous montrer comment la physiothérapie peut avoir un impact significatif dans divers domaines de la science, notamment en oncologie. En effet, la réadaptation physique des patients atteints de cancer, appelé la physio-oncologie, est à la fois possible et recommandée. Comme toujours, l'objectif principal de la physiothérapie est d'améliorer la qualité de vie des personnes, et c'est précisément ce qu'elle accomplit avec les survivants du cancer. Parmi les nombreuses interventions effectuées par les physiothérapeutes auprès des patients atteints de cancer, la détection et le traitement du lymphœdème occupent une place importante. Le lymphœdème, une complication possible après la radiothérapie, le cancer ou une chirurgie, se caractérise par un gonflement d'une partie du corps dû à une accumulation de lymphe dans les tissus mous. En plus de cela, des programmes d'exercices d'aérobie et de résistance sont prescrits afin de préparer les patients à leurs traitements, de faciliter leur récupération et d'atténuer certaines douleurs post-traitement. Ceci permet de réduire le risque de complications pulmonaires après une opération, la fatigue liée au cancer et les douleurs, tout en améliorant la qualité de vie globale. La gestion des effets secondaires est un rôle crucial des physiothérapeutes, et ils apportent un soutien physique et psychologique essentiel aux patients atteints de cancer.
