I’ll review a Japanese fantasy animation film title that I watched 🎥🎞️ Suzume (2022) すずめの戸締り This movie is a feature-length animation set in ruins all over Japan, it has depicted the adventures and growth of a young girl who sets out on a journey to close the “door” that is the source of disaster. The plot of this movie is about, “Suzume Iwato”, a 17-year-old girl living in Kyushu, meets “Sota Munakata”, a young man on a journey searching for a door. Following him, Suzume arrives at ruins in the mountains where she finds an old door standing there as if it had been left behind from the collapse. She is drawn to it and reaches out to the door. Soon, doors start opening one after another all over Japan. As disasters come from the other side of the doors, Suzume sets out on a “door-locking journey” to close doors. Despite being hit with many surprises and difficulties, she continues to move forward. My thought about this film, A story that beautifully blends real events with fantasy. To be honest, the story was difficult to understand, but the visuals and music were impressive. The flow from the climax to the ending was also very good! Tomando antiguas mitologías de su país natal y conjugandolas con sus propias experiencias para con los desastrosas consecuencias del terremoto de Tōhoku, el director Makoto Shinkai configura una sólida road-movie animada que enfrenta nuestra valerosa heroína con un monstruo milenario a la par de un crecimiento madurativo sobre su propio trauma. A la par, el argumento explora tangentes paralelas con los alegados inmediatos de Suzume: Souta, con su afán de no decepcionar a su familia, y Tamaki, la tía convertida en acelerada madre de la protagonista. Claro que hay ciertas estructuras que resuenan a anteriores trabajos del director. Y puede que el desenlace sea un poco desprolijo en su lógica. No obstante, es un guión que nunca da por sentado a sus personajes, y les da las acciones y la voz que necesitan para empatizar con el público. La mágica banda sonora y el ilustre trabajo en iluminación, así como los melancólicos encuadres, terminan de demostrar el estupendo equipo de producción reunido, igual de devoto hacia el mensaje que el inspirado autor. Shinkai ha trabajado arduamente para llegar a este punto en su carrera, y la gran expectación en torno a sus proyectos lo señala sin duda como uno de los mejores de la animación japonesa. "Suzume" (2022) Another ambitious and incredible animé feature from writer-director Makoto Shinkai, "Suzume" follows the titular high school teenager who discovers doors around Japan that bring forth destruction. Along the way, she meets a mysterious young man, named Souta, on his own quest to find the same doors, as well as a mischievous cat that curses the heroic Souta by turning him into a toy chair. This latter element is one of many subversive choices throughout this surprising and gripping coming-of-age story, which opens with a bang and never lets go. (At least one later scene carries a genuine sense of vertigo.) Apparently set during the COVID-19 pandemic, "Suzume" is also a cross country road trip adventure about friendship, geographical history, connection (Shinkai's films feature characters interacting on or habitually using social media), sacrifice, and reconciliation. The attention to detail and personality in the animation is superb, and the score by Radwimps and Kazuma Jinnouchi is an emotional roller-coaster--and fitting for such a genre-bending feature. TRIVIAL FACTS: A few references to old Studio Ghibli films are peppered throughout, including the same track from the opening credits of 1989's "Kiki's Delivery Service." Plus, the imagery of a little girl in a mysterious field, as well as forgotten communities in ruins (a reflection of real-life natural disasters that have occurred in Japan) and glimpses of a spiritual dimension, are poetic, powerful, and profound. At long last I’m finally able to get the chance to see Makoto Shinkai’s latest hit "Suzume" in theaters here in the US! Aside from seeing the trailers in theaters, I know next to nothing about this film. I guess that’s a good thing though because I’ll be going in blind and everything about the movie will be a surprise to me. It’s always cool when certain Japanese (or foreign) films in general film get stateside releases because you get to see filmmaking styles and stories that are unique to those countries! Anyway I can’t wait to see what "Suzume" has in store for me! To say I’m both excited and intrigued would be an understatement! Watching it in its original Japanese language with English subtitles. Sometime after “Weathering with You” got released, the world got struck by COVID-19, which put moviegoing into question when alternative feasible options were given since. It gets reflected that franchises are dominating the experience, making easy picks on what’s worth seeing on the big screen and what fits to simply watch on smaller screens – even though they weren’t budgeted as television films nor made for that scale. A devastating truth to swallow and admit with hope to make a change. But secondary behind franchises is either intrigue originals under heightened reputations enough to compel and authorship by well-established directors/storytellers proving their worth on being witnessed on the big screen. Makoto Shinkai’s current slate of stories he released not only seems connected but also serves as his rejuvenated breakthrough that established his authorship further. “Your Name” is a phenomenon, then “Weathering with You” surpassed that onto the next level by immersivity. His earlier feats, which I finally watched, detail simplistic slice of life storytelling and fantastical circumstantial events that planted wonders. He embraces ambitious scopes in his more recent works as stakes are higher and grimmer, same goes emotionally being more resonating and empathetically felt to the point of contributing towards the overall thrillingly built climax. Does “Suzume” have what it takes to surpass its predecessor? No matter how it ranks, disappointment is unheard of across these films. I went to this on a total whim and now it may be my favorite film of the year. What a beautiful tale of human connection and the process of grief while also incorporating an epic tale across a nation. This is a masterclass in seamlessly blending an exciting narrative with a heartfelt, character driven experience. I don't cry TOO easy but there were a couple drops tonight near the end of this one for the first time in awhile. Review: "Suzume." Writer/director Makoto Shinkai’s been telling stories since the late-1990s, but didn’t become as widely well-known in the United States until his 2016 release "Your Name. (君の名は。)" which combined science fiction/fantasy elements through a natural disaster with young love, creating one of the greatest and emotionally satisfying films of the 2010s. His 2019 follow-up film "Weathering with You (天気の子)" tread a similar narrative path, exploring an unnatural nature-based phenomenon and an adolescent love story. For this reviewer, the ending didn’t carry the same weight or conviction as Your Name., making the whole harder to appreciate and creating a sense of anxiety over Shinkai’s latest project "Suzume (すずめの戸締まり)." Though "Suzume" involves many of the same narrative elements as the prior two, the execution is wholly different and nearly as emotionally gut-wrenching as "Your Name.," leaving the audience in a state of awe by the conclusion. Suzume no Tojimari Film ✨ went to sm dasma for the first time and ofc with myself only and luckily I didn't get lost like the usual lol. Las compañías productoras #CoMixWaveFilms, #StoryInc., y #TOHO anunciaron que la banda #RADWIMPS interpretará el tema musical principal para la nueva #Película del director #MakotoShinkai, #SuzumeNoTojimari ( #Suzume_S_DoorLocking). La banda ya ha colaborado en trabajos previos del director como #KimiNoNaWa ( #YourName) y #TenkiNoKo ( #WeatheringWithYou). Por otra parte, el compositor Kazuma Jinnouchi (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, RWBY: Ice Queendom) se encargará de la banda sonora del proyecto en colaboración con RADWIMPS, mientras que la artista de TikTok, Toaka, interpreta el tema musical “Suzume”, que ya apareció en un video promocional previo. Finalmente, la cinta tiene su estreno programado para el próximo 11 de noviembre en cines de Japón. Quando nel dicembre scorso Shinkai, già regista e sceneggiatore di film di successo come Il giardino delle parole (2013), Your Name. (2016) e Weathering With You (2019), ha annunciato di essere impegnato in questo nuovo lavoro, ha descritto Suzume no tojimari come una moderna storia d’avventura, un film d’azione e un road movie. Suzume no tojimari ha per protagonista una ragazza di diciassette anni che un giorno incontra un uomo impegnato nella ricerca di una particolare porta. I due la trovano tra delle rovine sulle montagne, Suzume la apre e presto molte altre porte simili si spalancano in tutto il Giappone, causando disastri dal lato opposto dell’apertura. Suzume allora si impegnerà a cercare di richiudere queste porte per mettere fine ai disastri.
