"Star Trek: Picard" - Season 3 from the year 2023 (10 episodes, science fiction) 💫 After receiving a urgent distress call from Dr. Beverly Crusher, Admiral Picard enlists help from generations old and new to embark on one final adventure: a daring mission that will change Starfleet, and his old crew forever. 💫 After a mediocre second season I was excited to see season 3, especially when it was announced that the entire TNG crew is coming back. This season has many enjoyable elements full of nostalgia, but some parts of the plot don't make much sense. Seeing all the old cast together back in their roles was fun and I loved to see them interact. I also like the new characters, but I would have liked to see more characters from the first two seasons, with only Raffi and Seven staying. In regards to the plot, I think it is the weakest aspect of this season. I like the premise of shapeshifters infiltrating Starfleet, but the Borg seemed a little too far-fetched and Vadic elements are a little boring. I would totally watch a spin-off with the crew of the new Enterprise. I have read that the idea for this new series would be called 'Star Trek: Legacy' with Seven, Raffi, Jack Crusher and Sydney La Forge. The characters are fun and I think there is potential for nice relationships and plotlines. 💫 All in all, I would recommend this season to fans of TNG and grand scifi storylines. Welcome to favourite movie Friday. Every Friday I am gonna do a review for one of my all time favourite films. To start us off I’m gonna talk about a film that has been on rewatch since I was in middle school and that film is Scream (1996) Man do I love this film. Easily my most rewatched film of all time and the film I go to most often when I just want a good fun watch. The story itself is super simple but its ability to combine a number of different genres such as slasher, thriller, horror, comedy, mystery and do so flawlessly is just so satisfying. If you’ve seen this film before you’ve seen how it pays homage to popular horror and slasher films that came before it. That to me is one of the biggest appeals that this film carries. It’s a love letter to horror and it’s really fun to watch. From a more specifics standpoint the story keeps you on the edge of its seat while you’re trying to guess who exactly the killer is. In addition it really fleshes out the characters and Sidney specifically gets a great backstory and great development through out. The horror scenes although not overly scary do give you a sense of creep as you’re watching someone try to survive in a very well directed chase scene. Overall this movie is phenomenal and is my vote for best slasher ever made. If you haven’t watched this do your self a favour and do so asap. FANNY AND ALEXANDER (1984) - Watching a 90 minute Bergman movie is often overwhelming, let alone a 5 hour version of what is already his longest movie. But it is never to its detriment, as Fanny and Alexander is deserving of its lengthy runtime and is one of the most accomplished pieces of cinema I have ever seen. _ The attention to detail is absolutely staggering, showcasing the beautiful colourful interiors of the sets, the costumes, and the music, whilst it also boasts an exceptionally strong screenplay which delves deep into the trials and tribulations of every single family member. _ As is always the case in Bergman’s movies, the acting is incredible. I can’t even single anyone out as they are all brilliant. They’re each given huge moments to shine, and are able to express range with scenes of camaraderie, despair and stillness. _ Fanny and Alexander really does have everything you could want from a Bergman movie. It’s thought-provoking, haunting, beautiful, as well as being both experimental and accessible in equal measure. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire- ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 I enjoyed this so much more than Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Of course James Acaster was the highlight, even though it felt like he was just doing stand up the whole time I just laughed every time he came on screen. It was so special seeing Bill, Ernie and Dan together again. Ghostbusters has such a special place in my heart I loved the original movies as a kid and still now so I was expecting to hate it but I was pleasantly surprised. Also, I like Finn Wolfhard but I would love to see him play something other than an annoyed teenager lol.

Woody Allen made a good, but not great, effort to return to his early, zany comedies of the 1970s, playing a neurotic film director wasting his time making silly TV commercials. Then he finally lands a contract to direct a movie again, and he’s so excited - that he goes blind. Insanity ensues. 😝 The critics were pretty merciless to this film in 2002, with some calling it Allen’s worst ever film. It’s hardly that; there are snappy one liners throughout, and Allen once again assembled a fine ensemble cast, with Tea Leoni and Treat Williams as standouts. The Idea of You (2024) via Special Screening What will happen if a 24-year-old boy band superstar falls in love with a 40-year-old divorced mom with one daughter? Well, this newest romantic-comedy film starring Anne Hathway really had a lot of arsenal in giving the audience a treat from start to finish. It was well written and acted by two charming lead stars that easily find their way to play with their characters while connecting with the audience at the same time. We already saw Anne Hathaway in a lot of romcom’s before, and she easily swept our hearts with her natural beauty and talent in acting. Now at her 40s, Hathaway’s charm had no signs of slowing down and continues to impress especially here where you can really see and feel her emotions from her simple movements, eye gestures and sincere acting that she is falling for a superstar that is younger than her. I love how she sells her character well and I arguably, I think this is her best romcom film yet. Nicholas Galitzine, on the other hand is the perfect guy to do this role as he had the looks and charm that any girl could dream of. He is sells his character well especially when he is performing on the stage. The chemistry is very evident between the two leads and they are surrounded with a talented supporting cast. I love the scenes as it really had that spark and moments that you will feel that their feelings towards each other are real. The humor is also there, plus there are a lot of songs that are so catchy and were already added to my Spotify playlist. I can’t remember the last romcom film that made me smile a lot of times while watching it. The story, the characters, the songs and the scenes were just perfect. It is easy to recommend and probably one of the best new films available on Prime Video right now. Just done watching the series. The last episode was the best, I cried a river when they see each other again after the war. The series follows them across continents as they do everything in their power to survive, and to reunite as a family. The series demonstrates how in the face of the 20th century’s darkest moment. The series is a tribute to the triumph of hope and love against all odds. This is based on a true to life story. The Bad Batch (Season 3) – 2024 There is so much I have to say about this show that it won’t fit into this brief review. Firstly, there are a few questions that we don’t get answers to, like who were the four specialised troopers in the finale? What’s going to happen with Rex and his clone revolution? And what was the fallout of Hemlock’s failed operation? These questions don’t necessarily ruin the show or make it have less of an impact but it would have been nice to have seen those specific parts of the galaxy explored. But the positives completely outweigh the negatives. The animation, characterisation, story, voice acting; everything was incredible. The highlight for me was Omega, finding her to be a real joy to watch as she functioned independently from the rest of the Batch and even taking charge and making her own plans when trapped. The interactions between the members of the Batch throughout was also so entertaining to watch and seeing how Tech’s death from Season 2 has impacted the group added this sombre undertone that really aided the rest of the show. This season also served as the final season for the show and it was such an incredible way to go out. There were elements that could have been a little more explored (and I think that most of the disappointment is going to come from fans over-speculating about certain things rather than the show making promises or teases that go nowhere) but overall this season was episode-to-episode amazing and I am truly thankful to all of those involved for making it. Hopefully we see more of Hunter and the Batch at some point in the future but for now, this show/season is absolutely amazing and serves as the best example of animated Star Wars. *Please remember, people are allowed their opinions. 🇨🇵 L'histoire: Un groupe d'amis, logeant dans une maison louée, passe le temps en lisant leurs horoscopes à l'aide de vieilles cartes de tarot qu'ils ont trouvées. Cependant, les dernières cartes prennent mystérieusement vie et commencent à les poursuivre. Ma critique: Le film était assez prévisible, ce que j'ai trouvé amusant étant donné son thème. J'ai apprécié les scènes mettant en vedette les créatures issues des cartes ; elles étaient impressionnantes de creepiness et bien réalisées. Les effets CGI étaient également bien exécutés. Le choix de la musique au début, lors de la mise en place de la lecture, semblait étrange, mais heureusement, la musique pour le reste du film convenait bien aux scènes. Tous les acteurs ont bien joué, avec Jacob Batalon qui a offert quelques moments humoristiques. Si on me demandait si ça vaut la peine d'être vu, je dirais oui. Malgré sa prévisibilité, j'ai apprécié le film. 🇳🇱 Het verhaal: Een groep vrienden verblijft in een gehuurd huis en brengt de tijd door met het lezen van hun horoscopen met behulp van enkele oude tarotkaarten die ze hebben gevonden. Echter, de laatste kaarten komen op mysterieuze wijze tot leven en beginnen hen te achtervolgen. Mijn recensie: De film was vrij voorspelbaar, wat ik amusant vond gezien het thema. Ik heb genoten van de scènes met de wezens uit de kaarten; ze waren indrukwekkend griezelig en goed gemaakt. De CGI was ook goed uitgevoerd. De muziekkeuze aan het begin tijdens het opzetten van de lezing voelde vreemd, maar gelukkig was de muziek voor de rest van de film goed afgestemd op de scènes. Alle acteurs speelden goed, met Jacob Batalon die enkele humoristische momenten verzorgde. Als mij gevraagd zou worden of het de moeite waard is om te kijken, zou ik ja zeggen. Diop’s first full length documentary follows Steve - a 25-year old petty criminal turned actor - on his way in and out of Paris where he has been studying drama in one of most prestigious acting schools. Though bright-eyed and ambitious, Steve is full of roiling anger - at the school that pigeonholes him into ‘black roles’, at the systemic racism that perpetuates the preconceived image of Black people as angry and uproarious. A trained sociologist, Diop investigates how people on the margins navigate their social milieu. Steve is a resident at the same housing project as Diop, Cité des 3000, and by going to the esteemed acting school, where he is the only Black person, Steve is bridging the gap between the two worlds. Full of ardour and passion, one moment he is dreaming of Cannes and Venice, next - he finds himself despondent and dejected as if at an impasse that precludes his artistic ambitions become true. The film is not just about race being the main obstacle in Steve’s life, it also sheds light on his sense of alienation and a lack of confidence that comes with family and peer support. This milieu that Diop so humanistically captures attests to the fact that society conveniently ostracises those who are on the margins. Not only physically, but psychologically. When you do not feel like belonging, would you even try to break the glass ceiling? Steve Tientcheu is now a professional actor with more than 40 credits to his name. He did break through after all, but has he even played Georges Danton, a hero of the French Revolution? At the end of his schooling, Steve was to perform his final role and no surprise here, it was a Black role of Miss Daisy’s chauffeur. Danton can’t be Black, but not in Alice Diop’s film. At the end of the film Diop gives space for Steve to recite Denton’s famous monologue, and bravo he delivers it with so much candour and defiance. ⭐️10/10⭐️ #alicediop

Tarot - C- Astrology and dumbass gen Z kids, two things I hate. This is your pretty run of the mill horror with an astrology/tarot theme to it. It does have some cool “monsters” with some decent moments, but it’s overall incredibly average in the horror space. Take an average horror movie and throw a bunch of astrology bullshit at it that the audience is supposed to remember or care about, and you have this mess. The characters are unlikeable and mostly forgettable (I could give you 2/7 names and I don’t even know who they belonged to), with most of their characterization coming in the form of their tarot card reading info dump at the beginning. I almost forgot to mention, “scary” would be a gross overstatement of this film. The Mummy (1999) - 7.9/10 A somewhat underrated “classic” that is somehow 25 years old. It was fun to see this in theaters, even if it was so ridiculously loud, and a bit outdated. The practical effects hold up (as they usually do), it’s the CGI that really shows this movies age. While it’s not god-awful, it is definitely from the 2000’s time frame. That being said, the adventurous story still holds up. Interestingly enough, I can’t come up with another movie quite like it (besides sequels and remakes). There’s adventure, danger, romance, mummies, Egypt, comedy, body horror, horrifying deaths, and anything else you could ever want in a movie like this.
