ARGYLLE (2024) - Incredibly convoluted and overstuffed full of twists to a point beyond parody and exhaustion, Argylle is straight-up trash. _ It is so simple yet told in the most complex way possible, with back and forth timelines, about 15 double crosses, reveals and twists. It got to a point where I just gave up on the whole thing and trying to follow it all. _ Any narrative sense or structure is discarded for shock value moments and Vaughn becomes more concerned with where the next twist will come from, rather than fleshing out the story, lore or characters. _ The rest of it is generic spy nonsense filled with cliches. There is also the awfully unfunny screenplay, pedestrian performances (Sam Rockwell innocent) and shoddy CGI. I don’t quite know where to begin with this. Those of you who know me know just how much I’m not a huge fan of the original film. That said, I won’t deny the impact it had on me when I was young, or the impact it’s had on so many over the decades. Personally, I thought Tim Burton did a fantastic job with his adaptation. Felt truer to the book too. To me at least. And then we have the new film, which was absolutely charming in every way. Dev Patel begins his directorial debut by placing himself as the leading actor in this one man army revenge story in the mould of film characters such as ‘John Wick’. However, despite taking a different cultural approach and a more harrowing backstory, ‘Monkey Man’ fails to match the levels of similar lone wolf predecessors. Unlike ‘John Wick’ and similar films where the context of the plot is laid to us before the action kicks in, here the story is allowed to run without any knowledge of why Kid (Dev Patel) is seeking such revenge. Eventually throughout the story it becomes uncovered as to why through snippets of flashbacks that reveal more and more that ultimately justify the pain you can see administered through the well performed Patel’s eyes. Nonetheless, I found this was detrimental to the movie, it’s always good to see something different but here I found it hard to root for the protagonist in the first act. The context of the revenge is so powerful that if revealed earlier would have had me zoned in way more than I was. Also the film had a strange tone at times as naturally it has dark and gritty moments but also thanks in part to Alphonso (Pitabhash Tripathi) there was plenty of comedy, while the comedy was quite entertaining it created a confusing overall tone at times. On the flip side of this Dev Patel offers a committed performance while also directing a film that offers something slightly different to the genre it lies in, strong fight sequences and good editing. Overall, this film was not for me but it's not a bad film by any imagination. Despite a well rounded performance from Patel in acting and directing I was unable to invest in the story as much as the alternative army of one movie characters partly due to the slow release of the contextual background here. Super excited for the second season of this new @falloutonprime series!!! The wasteland is brutal and unforgiving, that much is reflected in the plethora of various ways you can lose your life while innocently strolling around it. But what I didn’t expect is to laugh my butt off at the sheer amount of whimsical stupidity that happens in the desolate landscapes of post-apocalyptic America. Took me back to the hours and hours of endless exploration I put in when playing the games and encountering the wildest and weirdest shit ever. Manages to weave an entirely new story that patiently reveals the conspiracy that’s at the core of this narrative, whilst staying faithful to and respecting the source material. Loveable characters and thoughtful worldbuilding. Easter eggs and references galore. So much still to explore in future seasons.

Dieses Mal aber in das Subgenre des „Spaghetti-Western“ & da hab ich mir einen der großen Klassiker rausgesucht, dessen Hommage der Neuzeit wir natürlich alle kennen #DjangoUnchained, aber der originale #Django von 1966 war bisher noch offen bei mir 😊 📝Im Grenzland zu Mexiko rettet ein einsamer Revolvermann, der einen Sarg mit sich rumschleppt eine Frau vor Folter & Mord durch eine Bande Gangster. Danach macht er sich mit ihr auf ins Dorf & legt sich mit dem Gangsterboss an. Allerdings stellt sich bald heraus, dass er der Frau nicht aus altruistischen Motiven geholfen hat, sondern sich mit den Mexikanern für einen Raubzug verbünden will. 📢Düster, wortkarg, spannend… Django bringt alles mit, was ein guter Western braucht. Der „Lone Wolf“, der immer einen Sarg dabeihat, ist dabei ein so starkes Bild, dass es allein schon den Film trägt. Dazu ein paar kleinere Wendungen & Betrügereien & die durchweg spannende Story ist komplett. 🎞Fazit: obwohl ich kein großer Western-Fan bin, hat mich Django wirklcih gut unterhalten. From the trailer alone, it looked a lot of fun. Well, the first 20 minutes started off a bit slow and some parts were a bit predictable. Rather than that, I had an amazing time with this, it was a blast. Bill Skarsgard was pretty awesome. You know, he is such an amazing actor, he doesn't need any dialogue. Plus, I really enjoyed watching Jessica Rothe in this and it is great to see Famke Janssen. And love all the action sequences, they were outstanding. Especially when he uses his inner voice, love the humor throughout this movie. Overall, this is a fun, entertaining movie.
