🌟 STUDENT SPOTLIGHT 🌟 Two more Student Spotlights from Mid-Pacific School of the Arts! Juniors Cameryn Koike and Kailey Holbrook have been given additional honors for their award-winning short films. Camerynʻs film Christmas Lights just won The Spirit of Eleanor Award at the OK2BX Film Festival based in Dallas, Texas. The festival was created in honor of Eleanor and exemplifies her core belief that we can come together and find more about us that is alike – rather than the things that keep us apart. This particular award is chosen by the Bolding family and given to the film that “best exemplifies Eleanor’s spirit of inclusivity and humor.” Cameryn’s winnings include an “Ellie” statue and a $200 cash prize. Christmas Lights recently won the Best Film award at the Hawai’i International Film Festival’s inaugural ‘Ōpio Fest and was also screened as an Official Selection at the Los Angeles Youth Diversity Film Festival in Hollywood. This summer it has been invited to screen at the Prince Hotel as part of the Summer Flix Presented by HIFF Screenings. Cameryn is a multi-talented artist and is also starring in the MPSA theatre production of The Crucible, which closes this weekend. Kaileyʻs film Young Again, which recently took home the Best Screenplay award at the HIFF ʻŌpio Fest, has now won the top award at the Olelo Youth Xchange 2024. Young Again won first place in the High School Expert contest, beating out filmmakers from all across the islands. Kailey also mentored a group of MPSA Middle School students whose film Nā Manu Nahele was a finalist in the Makahiki O Nā Manu Nahele (Year of the Forest Birds) contest and they all were invited to attend the awards show which was broadcast live. #MPSA #MPSAfilm #studentfilmmakers #futurefilmmakers

Concerns are rapidly growing around how generative AI can create audio, video, and photo-realistic images that are indistinguishable from true historical material and complicate representations of reality. The @archivalproducersalliance (APA) has recently released guidelines to help filmmakers think through whether and how to incorporate AI into their work, and other groups are also wrestling with the implications of using AI. Last night's RTS Midlands Student Awards 2024 at the IET, Birmingham, were a stellar celebration for our screen-based courses! 🏆 Huge congratulations to our talented graduates: Harry Lenton, 2023 BA (Hons) Animation, snagged the Best Animation award for his captivating work 'You Are Not Made of Flesh,' along with a special mention from Sir Lenny Henry himself! Tom Harper, Josh Fener, Sam Greenhill, and Jacek Ubych, 2023 BA (Hons) Filmmaking, stole the show with 'Will Smith’s Wicked Band,' winning the Best Entertainment and Comedy Drama award. Robyn Hargreaves, another 2023 BA (Hons) Filmmaking grad, nailed the Craft Award: Sound for 'Voices.' These exceptional films, 'You Are Not Made of Flesh' and 'Will Smith’s Wicked Band,' will now represent us as long-list nominees at the RTS National Awards in June at the NFT, London! #NTUDDA

RiverRun International Film Festival @riverrunfilm is officially here! The festival runs from April 18-27, so be sure to check out some of the amazing films that will be screening all across the city.
