Raw sketches # 10 I’ve returned to pencil on paper (it’s been a while) tonight. After spending so much time drawing on my iPad, feeling the texture of the paper and the drag of the pencil on the page really is soothing in a way that digital mediums just won’t ever be. As for the style, I find it brings out the natural organic look in my art and shows the perfect little imperfections that I love. I can add subtle details without it being too dark of a line. PINK! My brother surprised me with this beautiful pink toile of the James River. We like to call it toile de James and it’s got all the cottage vibes going on! We both live near the river and love spending time on the trails. We went on a tubing adventure with the fam a couple years ago and it was a blast! Toile de James is a happy hue of pink and a fun, whimsical pattern to add to the mix. Toile de James in pink would make a beautiful ruffled edge pillow, maybe in linen. This week the design challenge at Spoonflower is themed “The Birding”. The birdwatching theme inspired me to design a scene that is very prevalent here in Far North Queensland in Australia. Swooping Sulphur crested Cockatoos and laughing Kookaburras are common visitors in our back and front yards. These beautiful birds enjoy visiting humans in search of some easy food or just for some socializing. Did you know that Cockatoos are very intelligent and make great pets? In Indigenous culture, Kookaburras were created to wake people and living creatures, when the sun comes up, with their distinct laugh. Kind of like and Australian rooster 😊 I hope you enjoy my design 😊 There are a lot of coordinating fabric designs to see in the store as well. Today without knowing very well that I was going to paint, I took a photographic paper and painted flowers with ecoline inks mixed with alcohol. Then I profiled them. But with the white background everything was very simple. So again I started to stain the drawing with stains here and there covering the background and the flowers. And I like the result. 😊 I see it as a summer pattern design. I was feeling a bit nostalgic and I remember I never shared this design. Sooo, It was around this time last year I had my baby shower, “toy story goes safari” themed. 🍃 I want safari, and my bf wanted toy story… my family and friends decided to combine both themes. Showing you a color version of a print I did a few months ago. The change is not very drastic. I have changed the orange tones of the original hibiscus flowers to more magenta tones and the vivid green tones have been muted to more mossy tones. I like this combination. Sometimes with the changes we improve the designs, other times we don't. But it depends a lot on what product we are going to print it on. I see this print on swimwear like bikinis. and you?
