Busy day today prepping for my workshop at @howellsschoolgdst on Monday 🧵🪡✂️ I'm excited to be working with 60 pupils to investigate the issues of the fast fashion global supply but also finding upcycling solutions through the traditional handcraft skills of India! We will be exploring embroidery from Kolkata, applique from the state of Gujarat, and printing from Jaipur. They will be using these skills to create upcycled designs ready for their fashion show 3 weeks later. We will be using my chest of @organic_textile_company scraps and a whole load of other scrap fabrics I've been collecting over the years. I've also been lucky enough to source some old sari fabrics and trimmings, which have been very generously donated! They will also be showcasing some of their creations at the @sctcymru event at @seneddwales hosted by @jbryantwales in May. This is a heavy wool coat that was hand dyed to a darker deeper blue. The actual fabric composition is “90% alpaca & 10 % polyamide with an 100% cupro lining. This fabric dyed well. There is a furry quality to the alpaca fibers that will reflect some light so the overall color will tend to look lighter on this fabric, especially outdoors. In the absence of light this coat will look darker. ~~ The weaves of wool fabrics really affect how light or dark a color looks. In general however, wool fibers dye exceptionally well and very deep and rich colors can be reached. ~~ If you are interested in having your wool coat dyed, please send us the specific fiber %s written on the tag, send us a picture of the coat and let us know what color you’d like to have it dyed to. We are proud to present to you a real conversation, decolonial in practice via our take over for RCDF this October. We are the fashion liberation collective. We are a collective group of disruptors, agitators, activist design, and art practitioners. Whether we are in Algeria, Egypt or part of the Diaspora we are united in our commonality: post-colonial generations of north Africa who have been ‘awakened’. This conversation shall investigate the ‘local vs global’ debate and how we need to pull back our decolonial efforts in order to decolonize locally first. Shells are one of my absolute favourite materials to design with. Each one is so unique and beautiful in its own way…just like we are. Whenever I am fortunate enough to travel to a beach destination, I’m always looking for shells…our kiddos love helping with this too 🥰
I used neutrals with a hint of black and white textured beads + brass for this necklace. I also used amber recycled glass & various ceramic beads I baked last week. It’s so satisfying bringing an idea to life ❤️. Do you like created things? If so…what’s your thing?

As always is was an absolute joy and so inspiring to visit the #FutureFabricsExpo we like the focus on science-based innovation, and it’s great to see increasingly more low-impact materials for footwear! THANK YOU @thesustainableangle for yet another impactful and beautifully curated show. Great to catch up with the latest developments from some of the #biobasedmaterials and #nextgenmaterials pioneers @ecovative @nfw_tech @modernmeadow @pinatex, alongside exciting start-ups @polybion @ephea_mycelium @uncagedinnovations @modern_synthesis @mycotex_nl @treekindmaterials @arda.biomaterials For brands that still use leather, there were some great options too, we especially liked @british.pasture.leather and @regionales_leder which are made from fully traceable hides of cattle raised on local #regenerative #organic farms. Coming from quite different contexts, decolonial fashion scholars Francesco Mazzarella and Erica de Greef meet in this online conversation to share their reflections on craft(ing) encounters in contested spaces. To what extent can fashion activism be used to address the scars of colonialism, climate crises, or ongoing global violence? In what ways can fashion activism bring about systemic or social changes needed for decolonial healing? Erica de Greef is a curator, author and academic, and co-founder of the African Fashion Research Institute (AFRI) and the Refashion Lab. She explores the spaces of power and resilience in South African fashion, both in the past and present, working collaboratively to prompt critical and creative attention to the decolonial possibilities of redress. Francesco is a design researcher, educator, and activist, striving to plant seeds of hope and change, especially working with marginalised communities. He is Senior Lecturer in Fashion and Design for Social Change, teaching in a number of courses across London College of Fashion, UAL. Francesco’s research at the Centre for Sustainable Fashion spans the fields of fashion sustainability, textile craftsmanship, design activism, decolonising design, social change, and place-making.
