The ultimate goal is to have the learners feel like they belong, feel like they are seen, feel like they are part of our classroom. Sometimes that means having conversations that remind us how to treat one another, our surrounding and the belongings around us. When we have such chats, I think it’s imperative that we show our learners we also make those mistakes at times. Let’s not expect perfection from our learners because one, there’s no such thing! And two, we need to normalize making mistakes for our kids and learners. Making mistakes is a part of life!! Teacher burnout is real. For teachers this could be both emotional and physical exhaustion. It may show as quick frustration and irritability, mood swings, lack of concentration, always tired or insomnia. The definition of self affirmation is having belief in yourself, your worth and your ability to achieve things. While this seems so common and easy, sure I believe in myself, but it really isn’t. It is hard to think positively all the time about yourself. Children are no different. Children mimic what they see from the adults around them. If they see you always judging others or yourself that is what they will mimic. If you are constantly giving compliments and being kind that is what they will mimic. Doing self affirmations in a mirror with children helps build their self-confidence, self-esteem and resilience. You are creating the version of themselves they will see when they are older. #TeachingTinyHumans Tip of the Day! If you are a teacher or parent, you may unintentionally be introducing letter sounds using the “Intrusive Schwa” I.e. “B says b-uh” “Y says Y-uh”. It’s never too late to correct this, because as teachers and parents we’re always learning! During the Early Childhood years this can increase difficulty with pre-reading/reading, and speech skills.
