I’ve stayed at 16 Las Vegas hotels and am ranking them from worst to best: Number 9: The Mirage May 2005: The taxi ride from the airport was full of anticipation and wonder. I eagerly gazed out the window as the bright lights of the Strip came into view, setting the stage for an incredible journey. It was my first time ever in Las Vegas. It was a family trip, and our first destination was the Mirage hotel, a luxurious oasis in the heart of the city. At the time of its opening, it was one of the largest hotels in the world, as well as the most expensive hotel-casino ever built ($630 mil). I can still close my eyes and visualize walking thru the glass doors into the tropical rainforest atrium full of palm trees and other beautifully exotic plants, flowers, and even cascading waterfalls. My family was greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service, instantly feeling like VIPs in this grand resort. And how could I forget seeing Siegfried & Roy’s white tigers, along with the Mirage’s most iconic staple, the volcano show: a free nightly spectacle where you can witness a simulated volcanic eruption featuring fire, smoke, and real lava (fine..water effects). By the time our stay at the Mirage was complete, Las Vegas had truly left a permanent mark on my heart, and knew that I would be back, again and again. Have you ever stayed at The Mirage?
