Most of the people I've had the privilege of helping to heal over the last 9 years have been addicted to cortisol to some degree - including myself. If you’re like I was, you won’t event realise this is happening. You may even subscribe to the belief that you ‘thrive’ in stressful situations - when in fact, stressful situations provide a potent supply of cortisol - a constant high. LIVING this way over the med - long term can be tremendously detrimental to your physical, mental + emotional health, your relationship with yourself + your relationships with others. Being in a constant state of stress or 'flight' with cortisol running through your body also makes it very difficult for anyone including your own children to truly connect with you. Oftentimes it's not until we have healed + dissolved these patterns that we realise how deeply impactful they were on every aspect of our life. TO HEAL The GOAL is to return to your body + find equilibrium or balance internally + externally. Where you're able to rest + be present without your mind darting around. NOTICE what patterns you're engaged in now that reinforce racing, stress + over functioning. What steps can you take to either release those patterns completely or bring them into balance? The real payoff of a yoga practice, I came to see, is not a perfect handstand or a deeper forward bend – it is the newly born self that each day steps off the yoga mat and back into life. ~ Rolf Gates There is more to Yoga than just a physical workout. The yoga postures/asanas: *Improve blood circulation *Open the heart *Relax the spine, neck and shoulder (where we usually trap our stress) Hence, act like a fast forward button in slowing down the brain waves and achieve peace, calm, and focus back! Especially the forward folds can immediately move you out of flight-or-fight and into rest and digest. Same with the inversions - the heart comes above the head and calms the brain, and this, in turn, helps us relax Flight or fight (releases adrenalin) prepares the body to rush blood to the limbs to make us alert. Whereas, rest and digest prioritizes the blood flow mainly to the internal organs, reducing the heart rate and calming us down. If you want to thrive on stress, you will have to train yourself to manage triggers of the stress in daily life, and use them to survive in hostile surroundings. The gentle flows in the video should help you create harmony between your mind and body and help you face the world with strength, joy, and serenity. Stop fearing stress and start using it. Stop avoiding stress and learn to manage it.               Breathe. Exhale. Release. If you don’t have the time and patience to learn and do the different breathing techniques If you want to cultivate a positive emotional health If you want to calm down and stop the chatter in your minds Then make time in your day for COHERENT BREATHING TECHNIQUE Coherent breathing is very simple: Inhale slowly through your nose for 6 counts, i.e. “one…two...” up to 6 and then an exhale for the same number of counts. Repeat these 5 rounds and that is 5 breaths per minute!
