We released some ladybird beetles yesterday out in the vegetable gardens and a few planters. “Ladybugs,” as we often call them, are seen as a sign of good luck if they land on you. Good luck that is unless you’re an aphid. Ladybugs are voracious carnivores and one of their favorite foods is one of the most common garden pest. Many garden centers (including the one that staffs me) sell them as a biological control alternative to pesticides. Be very careful where you buy these and always ensure you buy the right species for your area.
