EPILOGUE: About 19 years ago, today.... I was stationed most all the way up at the top of Hotel Pontchartrain, overlooking the Detroit River into Windsor, knocking this beat along with a bird's eye view of the water below.... Not entirely done with it then, altho well-inspired upon my reeling from an epic weekend of nonstop Techno in the Motor City. Played a small live act in the Necto tent, played at a bar for an AM Only event with Ken Ishii, got one of my earmarked Transmat tunes "Tranquility" on the Movement 2004 Double CD as a consequence of our dealings then and basically had a serious blast hanging with locals like Kevin Reynolds, Mike Clark, Mike Smith, Norm Talley, Delano Smith, Buzz Goree and even a brief essential hangtime session at the head of my trip over at Transmat HQ with none other than the man himself, Derrick May. A lot has happened since then, and we have all seen technology do cartwheels from the Laptop era we were all entrenched in back then. Funny thing about the music from that time period is that the ENERGY from the previous solid run of dance music could still be FELT in the music.... We were using the INSPIRATION of possibility from the convenience of backpack computing as FUEL for the fire.... and you can hear it in the music! I was once told by Derrick after one of his gigs in LA at the Avalon back around the same time, "Don't get burnt out." True words of wisdom from a true pioneer. I'll admit, it's been tough. And I will also say this: one of the MAIN reasons you find me FIGHTING so hard is to PRESERVE that kindling. The conditions for the FIRE have been DICEY.... and you can guarantee I won't let my flame for Techno ever burn out, even when the scene and the world-at-large do their damndest to try and extinguish it. Finished this tune in my car outside of Solid Grooves on the Alameda shortly thereafter. Mixed down in the Digital Recording Studio at CalArts. Signed to Affected UK.
