I first came to India 12 years ago, full of illusions and preconceived ideas about this “exotic” place. But confronted with the constant scramble at bus stops and train stations, the freestyle driving, the liberal interpretation of boundaries and the nonverbal “no’s” and “yeses”, I found it exceedingly frustrating at times. Indian civilisation has been around for a very long time and, is not about to change because some baggy-pants wearing, ray-ban glasses with an iPhone-toting traveller wants it to. I am no expert on the subject but, I came to realize that India will never bend to my needs; I am the one who needs to bend. Otherwise, I’d endure a very hard time. To me, the greatest of these lessons is the art of letting go. That means, letting go of any expectations. Indians know a thing or two about this (take for example the sacred texts in the Bhagavad Gita). Normally, the more effort we make, the higher our expectations are and, I needed to relinquish the illusion of control desperately, hard as it may be. That is not easy, of course, for here, any attempt at controlling fate – or pretty much anything else – is futile. Resist, and you’ll be knocked over. Dive into it, and you’ll swim out the other side. Over the years, I’ve also learned that I needed to let go of the notion that I “understand” how India works - Both chaotic and orderly at the same time makes it strangely attractive and somewhat balanced. But more interesting, recently I read an article that made perfect sense: “If the point of travel is to challenge ourselves – then naturally we should seek out the most “difficult” destinations”. Just like India, not in order to change it but, rather, to change myself. It turns out that Delhi is utterly nuts after all. Hot, crowded, noisy, bonkers, and full of monkeys. And a goat mounting a 125cc scooter. We spent a fun few hours wandering around the old city, down narrow streets filled with people and scooters and every conceivable business and delicious smelling street food. Which we partook of despite everyone telling us to avoid it or face dysentery. So far so good, but at some point in the future you may be forced to read about the texture and frequency of our stools. One of the holiest sites of Buddhism..💙 . . Any trip to varanasi is incomplete without a day trip to Sarnath. Sarnath is renowned as a place where Gautam Buddha first taught 'dharma' to his disciples.. So obviously it is an important pilgrimage site for Buddhism.🙏 . . The place has so many temples built by various countries (Japan, Thailand, Srilanka to name a few) and the famous museum. 🌼🌼🌼 . . Even if you are not a very religion person, a visit to Sarnath is must for Indians just for the museum. Our Lion Capital of Ashoka, the Ashoka Chakra can been seen here. Unfortunately couldn't capture a good picture of the chakra😔( kept in a glass cabinet and lot of reflection) One of the best museums in India I have seen for sure. Appreciation post for food joints in bhuvneshwar भुवनेश्वर की शाम को जानने के लिए और वहां का लोकल खाना खाने के लिए हम पैदल चल रहे थे। लोगो से पता करके हम सब इस होटल में पहुंचे। ये होटल है बापूजीनगर में राजमहल चौराहे के पास। कहने को तो इसके नाम में होटल शब्द लिखा हुआ पर ये हैं एक छोटी सी दुकान जहां खाने के प्रेमी अपना मन को तृप्त कर सकते है। लगभग २० लोगो के बैठने की व्यवस्था हो सकती है यहां। यहां आपको लोकल भी खाना खाते मिलेंगे और हमारे जैसे टूरिस्ट भी। लोकल आकर तुरंत ऑर्डर कर देते है और टूरिस्ट को थोड़ा समय लगता है समझने और समझाने में। सबसे पहले तो भीड़ की वजय से आपको अंदर बैठने में थोड़ा टाइम लगेगा और जैसे ही आपके लिए जगह हो जायेगी आपको अंदर बुला लिया जाएगा। आपसे सबसे पहले पूछा जायेगा कि आप रोटी लेंगे या चावल। हम सबने रोटी के लिए कहा तो भाईसाहब जी प्लेट में ३ रोटी रख कर देंगे और "रोटी के साथ क्या खायेगे" इस पर डिस्कशन करके चले गए। उस रात को हमने रोटी के साथ दाल फ्राई, मिक्स वेज और पनीर मसाला ऑर्डर किया। बड़े बड़े होटल को इन फूड ज्वाइंट से सीखना चाहिए की कैसे बिना प्याज लहसुन के इतनी स्वादिष्ट सब्जी बनाई जा सकती है? खाने में सब्जियों को मिठास को आप महसूस कर सकते है। न ज्यादा मसाले और न ही ज्यादा तेल। एक दम अनुभवी हाथो से बना खाना। बड़े बड़े रेस्टोरेंट में खाना खा कर जब आप और आपका पेट बोर हो जाए तो ऐसे किसी लोकल एरिया में बसे फूड ज्वाइंट में खाना खाने आ जाइएगा। और अंत में जाते हुए हमने मीठा भी पैक कराया (खीर और छेना पायसम) और उसकी तस्वीर आप मेरी प्रोफाइल में ओडिशा वाली हाईलाइट में देख सकते है। #odisha #odishafood #odishagram #odishadiaries #odishaclicks #foodappreciation #appreciationpost #travelling #traveler #travellinginindia #odishatourism #travelphotography #travelblogger #travelexperience #bhuvneshwar

Het was geen makkelijke trip, ook omdat het echt zoeken was met Sà-nùk naar hoe, wat en waar en we ons in Jaipur echt vaak verloren voelde in het gigantische aanbod en de grote groothandels in de stad. Daar bovenop de continu overprikkeling van geluid, de geur, het verkeer, de mensen, het manvolk, dierenleed en mensenleed en de gigantische rommel.....het was soms even allemaal te veel.
