“Remember the Pain” . . . My client today has been through it over the course of her life. . . She has battled cancer, addiction, bone marrow testing, and many other very hard life changing events. It’s really interesting to me how many directions the art that I do for myself will go before a finished drawing is ready. . . This particular drawing was of a old sailor man with his tongue sticking out. . . I started working the color into it and went down an entirely different path then I had originally planned. . . Trust your artist and you will get a dope tattoo. . . When you pick a tattoo artist you typically will vibe with something or many things about them. . . Maybe it’s their style, or personality , their stunning good looks, whatever the case may be, you have decided to let that person make a permanent mark/modification to your skin. . . That trust should vary over to the design as well. My client today told me he wanted a #peterbiltlogo . . He gave me a simple idea but added 3 little words that gave me permission to make this tattoo great...Make it your own. . . By having full artistic and being told to make it my own I wanted to continue working and developing the skill set that I am by the day continuing to grow. . . Cody has a lot of #newschooltattoos already and I absolutely loved this bunny in the graveyard. . . I decided to even let my tattoo live in the background (something that doesn’t happen often) I just thought it would really look nice like it was part of the graveyard or something. . . But again he trusted me. I could have done a simple basic logo stamp. A red oval with #peterbilt in the center and honestly many tattooers would have done that. . . I started this #pimpbender tattoo today from #futurama . . Blaine has a good start to a sleeve of all of his favorite TV show animated characters. . . I will be adding color to this design later on but for today I wanted to really focus on nailing the line work. I went ahead and added a little bit of black shading so that he wouldn’t be walking around with just lines on a partially finished piece. . . I love using lines to trick the eye and make objects look closer up or farther away just with the weight of a line. I’m a bit of an #artnerd anyway but this fascinated me. . . I worked on this hummingbird and lily yesterday in honor of my clients grandmother. . . I did this tattoo overtop of a tattoo that I had done for my client a few months ago. . . The tattoo that I covered was one that was her children’s handwriting over her heart. It was a sweet idea and had tons of meaning but it was children’s handwriting in a very visible area. And against my advise😃 . . I think tattoos in a loved ones handwriting are really cool and super meaningful but should not be in prime real estate sort of areas in your body. . . When these tattoos are done well they still look like an amateur or a kid drew them. Just be aware that other people will not know who’s writing that is and will often judge your ink based in on first impression. . . Now my client has this brightly colored, cute little hummingbird and lily for people to see. No more tiny capital “I” peeking out from her shirt. Here’s a cool l ittle cylinder and sphere study I’ve been working on. . . This King piece is the first of many for this chess board study. . . I am learning to first draw the correct for as it is sitting in space and then push it. Shape and form before detail. Make it sit there on your paper before you worry about embellishments. . . I have recognized where my short comings have been artistically and it has held me back as well as intimidated me when I have tried to draw #newschool . . There is power in learning where you are wrong in your process or where certain changes can be made in order to make your product better. . . Each drawing that I produce now I start as simple as possible. No detail. Just shape. I feel like these changes that I am making and all the extra drawing time that I am putting in is really starting to show. . . I can’t wait to see my drawings in a couple of weeks. Level ups are within sight. Only 2 more feet till gold!
