More than 10 years ago I met a powerful medicin woman at a ceremony with Noaidi Eirik Myrhaug Partapuoli in Oslo. I remember very clearly the power I felt when we hugged and held each others arms to say goodby. We both said to each other, we wanted to see each other again and stay in touch. And so we did. Today's sacred art post: My Swan Maiden Journey (Gel Prints) In February this year I taught a sacred art retreat dedicated to Swan Maidens.This was announced months earlier. In January this year I spent one month alone at our Forest House in Sweden. I think of that time as "The Snows" because temperatures plummeted and every morning I checked whether I was snowed in or not. Darkness, deep snow and deep dreaming go well together. The boundary between night and day blurred. On an animist level all beings were dreaming together. I played a small part in the dreaming of the forest, the deer and frost flowers. They all appeared in mine. Boundaries dissolved. We were all One, expressions of Life's desire for all life forms, more life, eternal life. Dream Incubation!! Swan Maidens came and initiated me into their craft. I had already received my (3D, as in "as real as can be") swan wings week's after my mother died. They were a gift from the swan who gave me the bones for my swan bone flutes. I wore my wings, cradled in deep snow, making a "snow swan". I played my swan bone flutes for the snow swan... I also made these gel prints, exploring a personal journey of death and rebirth. I still feel very emotional when I see them. Surprised to look out of my window and see no snow... Can you relate? When we are little, around three or four, we have this captivating way of thinking called animism. It suggests that even things that don’t seem alive have their own little lives and can act on their own. It’s as if everything is imbued with life. Wind, trees, stars, even crayons and cereal bowls. It’s this perspective that drives our curiosity about the world and makes us wonder, even if we don’t fully get it yet. Remember Calvin? And how he talks to Hobbes as if Hobbes were a living being? They chat, sled down snowy hills, and travel to far-off planets together. Sometimes, Calvin even playfully blames Hobbes for his tricks. Imagine if we could tap into that kind of imaginative, curious thinking when going through strong emotions or facing illness. What if we saw our feelings or illness not as some intruders but as actual characters, each with their own quirks? Having their own separate voices even? Perhaps if we personify them, they might reveal why they are here. And maybe they have something profound to convey about our lives. A lie we believed. A truth we missed. Dreams we have forgotten. Ancestral Lineage Healing is relational in that it is about tending to our relationship with our ancestors. It is rooted in animist sensibilities that recognise that, by the very nature of our existence, we are in relationship with and connected to the world around us—human and non-human. Dr. Samsul Maarif, an Indonesian academic who studies indigenous animist communities in Indonesia, says that in these communities, being in relationship means asking, “How can I benefit you?” According to him, being of benefit to one another means having effective reciprocity and practising rituals of relationality. He says that healing is reconnection, and it is rituals that help us remember our connection. Being in relationship means that we have a responsibility for our part in the relationship. By being accountable for how we show up in our relationships, human and non-human, and asking how we can benefit those we are in relationship with, we benefit as well. Often when we least expect it and are most in need. This contributes to the well-being and sustainability of our lives and the communities and ecosystems around us. Welcome to the Witches Year & the seasonal celebration of Samhain in the Southern Hemisphere on 30th April / 1st May. Samhain is when the veils are the thinnest between the spirit & the physical realms. As we head into the winter cauldron, we light the ancestral fires to keep their memory burning bright. Potent intentions are set at this time with intense dreaming for many, as it is a time of returning and remembering. Here in the Southern Hemisphere we celebrate the seasonal wheel the opposite to the Northern folk who traditionally celebrate Samahin - 31st Oct / 1st Nov. It is interesting to note that the astrological mid-point when the sun is at 15deg Taurus this year 5th May. This seasonal marker of 15 degrees is directly in the middle of the equinox and solstice cardinal points. As a Witch & keeper of star lore, this delights me as it weaves together the solar, lunar and seasonal themes. Let us not forget that the ancestors govern the seasonal gateway of Samhain. They may push and pull you, sometimes kicking & screaming, into the unknown darkness to release all that is stagnant, worn-out and tired in your life. The reflection of Samhain is what does not truly inspire you, energise you or give you passion? The objective is clear, direct, honest & sharp like a diamond. This season does not reflect the subjectivity and immaturity of the younger Self. In the darkness of Samahin, an ancestor presents a seed-pod containing several seeds. You have to choose which one you wish to plant. Just spend a moment visualizing the planted seed in the moist, potent dark soil of regeneration. Particularly as women, when we are entering our second half of life, we are up against the patriarchal system so much more than when we were young. Why is this? When we were young we were so much more impressionable, being how society wanted us portrayed. Young, slim, beautiful, pretty, quiet, compliant and seduced by the system and everything that would keep us that way. As we age, none of that matters or simply does not work for us. We are not so quiet. And our power begins to shine through. It is dangerous to the patriarchy. The feminine spirit gets strong and the system fears it. Spiritual bypassing was designed by the religious leaders, to keep us all small. ‘Always look above, towards the light, towards a parent figure, not down into the heart of body, rooting ourselves to the earth’ So much easier when we are young, avoiding the darker places of shadow and grief and pain because we don’t always feel drawn to look or feel the necessity. But the soul resides amongst the darkness of our existence. It’s inner-light inviting us to find our deeper qualities and meaning for life. We recognise our true nature and begin to embrace our potential in a new way. Patriarchy fears this and ‘her’ inevitable power. So encourage the aging women to believe they are failing, that they are valueless, that they no longer shine. Dim them with ideas that only youth matters, that they must disappear and sit forever in a home that prepares them for death, not a legacy. Women must rise beyond this, and not fear our elderhood, we must avoid our disappearing and continue to share our wisdom and gifts. Of course the body is aging, we are tired. But we can be heard, we can write, we can sing and we can tell our tales for the youth to hear. There is so much more we can do that is a necessity for those who follow. There is a sparkle in our eyes, a glint of hope for the future and a light that glows from our hearts. We cannot hide these sparks that are deeply connected to our soul and our animistic natures. A importância do 25 de Abril, da revolução, mas fundamentalmente da Liberdade foi passada em casa, nas canções que ouvia desde de pequena, das músicas do Zeca, do José Maria Branco, do Sérgio Godinho. Pratiquer le shamanisme ≠ shaman ? ↓ Aujourd'hui, encore plus avec les réseaux sociaux, on entend tout et n'importe quoi sur le shamanisme et les shamans. Beaucoup de personnes affirment qu'il s'agit d'une tradition fermée, que seul les shamans peuvent avoir des animaux totems ou pratiquer le shamanisme, etc. Il était donc important pour moi d'écrire ce post, pour clarifier ce qui est ouvert ou fermé dans le shamanisme et revaloriser deux autres chemins de cette tradition : le pratiquant et le praticien. Mon but ici n'est pas qu'on s'enferme dans des cases et des étiquettes, mais de donner le nom des autres chemins pour qu'on arrête de s'approprier le terme "shaman" à tout va. On voit beaucoup de personnes sur les réseaux s'auto-proclamer shaman mais combien le sont réellement ? Combien sont pratiquants ou praticiens mais alimentent l'appropriation culturelle en utilisant pas les bons termes ? Il n'y a aucune honte à être pratiquant ou praticien, comme il n'y a rien de prestigieux à être shaman ! Chacun a son importance, son rôle à jouer dans l'ordre et l'équilibre de l'Univers ! Alors revalorisons toutes les voies ! Passi di guarigione: camminare verso se stessi Ogni cammino richiede attenzione. Dove metti i piedi è importantissimo per non rischiare di cadere a terra, inciampare, fratturarsi un osso, o anche soltanto per riconoscere la propria direzione. L'attenzione è fondamentale quando stiamo facendo un trekking in alta montagna, perché in luoghi molto scoscesi una piccola disattenzione può essere fatale. Puoi farti male se non sei attento. L'attenzione in una prospettiva sciamanica è una qualità della concentrazione e della mente. Se tu porgi attenzione a un aspetto della realtà e inizi a contemplarlo, esso si schiuderà come un fiore e ti cederà informazioni che verranno apprese dal tuo sguardo: forme, qualità, colori, contrasti, percezioni. Più apri il cuore, più queste informazioni sono gradevoli, poiché la loro sostanza e qualità aumenta. Diversamente rischieremo di osservare le cose da una prospettiva giudicante e di superficie. Il modo in cui diamo attenzione alle cose può cambiare completamente la prospettiva di una situazione. Se il mio sguardo è ostinato a osservare una determinata situazione sempre con lo stesso occhio non riuscirò ad aprire la mente alle opportunità che quella situazione può donarmi. Albert Einstein diceva che la mente funziona bene se utilizzata come un paracadute, ovvero quando è aperta; e per aprire la mente dobbiamo renderci conto che una determinata situazione è così, poiché è correlata a tutta una serie di relazioni. Se io sono arrabbiata per qualcosa, devo chiedermi sistemicamente con quanti aspetti della quotidianità è correlata questa rabbia; allora comincerò a muovermi verso lo stato di guarigione, che è un impegno verso l'anima. Camminare verso la guarigione è un processo di attenzione profonda verso se stessi che può propagarsi a tutte le nostre relazioni. Se io non voglio cambiare il modo con cui osservo le cose, rischio di rimanere irata, condizionata, in un certo senso anche “posseduta” da quella rabbia; poiché la nostra mente è porosa e il nostro corpo può impregnarsi di credenze, visioni, costrizioni e memorie.
