I can't take credit for the idea, as it wasn't mine, but I love the concept of making bunting out of old uniform that can no longer be worn. I am dismantling stained and damaged dresses from the used uniform that the PTA can't sell at their second-hand uniform sale. I will cut as many triangles as I can get out of it - there is lots more fabric to play with than I expected, because I am releasing pleats and gathers as I cut the skirts off the bodices. I am also salvaging collars, belts, and plackets/button stands so that I can make some kind of cable to which the triangles can be attached. If all goes well, it will be used at the school summer fair and other events. #reuserecycle

I love upcycling stuff - giving new life to old things, extending their usefulness and saving them from landfill. I think it feeds my creative bug too! Here are 3 simple upcycles from my garden. The first is the bird bath which is a treasured feature of my small townhouse courtyard as I enjoy a large array of visiting birds bathing from my kitchen window. My favourites are the wrens, but I also get honey eaters, peewees, magpies, butcher birds, native pidgeons, minor birds and the occasional bush turkey. It is simply a ceramic pot that has a crack in it (so it was no use for planting in as water leaks out the side) tipped upside down, and the tray placed on top and filled with water - that's it!! I honestly get so much joy from watching birds visit it - and they get so much joy from bathing in it! You could fix the tray to the pot if you wanted, but I've never found I've needed to - its never tipped off. The second is a pair of plant pots made from Japanese tea cups that I never use, and the third is a plant pot made for my air plant from a tealight candle holder. For these plant pots I just needed to drill a drainage hole in the bottom to make them in to planters. I recommend using a 12mm diamond drill bit for drilling through ceramics. I had an amazing time collaborating with the photography students and fellow fine art students this week, working around our theme of "Nature" to create an amazing and massive collabative artwork. The butterflies and ladybirds are handmade using clay and are incredibly delecate and were a pain to place, but in the end, it was definitely worth it ! Managed to get a hole in the knee of a fairly new pair of jeans. The sewing machine and I are still not friends😡, so I can’t bear to argue with it😜 I tried to iron on a patch from the back, but it didn’t turn out well😱 Not happy🤯 with the result of the patching, the trousers stayed in the closet for a long time. it is very unsustainable♻️ and the trousers are incredibly comfortable to wear.
