He loves trumpet/horn music. I played trumpet in high school because my Dad played trumpet in high school because my grandpa played trumpet in high school. It’s a thing. A while ago my Dad passed down his record collection to me which contained lots of jazz and trumpet style music. So these albums are super special to me. And these albums are hilarious to me. I like to think about it all week and then pick my album. And then, all too often, I get busy on Friday and don’t have time to submit. So once again I’m crashing the party. Anyway, here is my selection: Soundgarden - King Animal - Bones Of Birds I am so happy that in 2012 Soundgarden put this album out in the world. It seemed as thought the 1996 release of Down On The Up Side was to be their last. Aside do the passing of Eddie Van Halen, Chris Cornell’s death is the hardest loss of a musician for me. His passing hit me differently than Eddie’s. Eddie’s music is a part of my DNA, who I am. Chris represented my generation. And so when Chris passed away it seemed more like the end of times. Finally got a chance to sit down and listen to this Christmas present, the @mofidistribution pressing of Van Halen’s debut album. I even replaced my cartridge/stylus before giving this a spin. And, it lived up to expectations. This is the best sounding album I own. I can’t wait to get the rest of the VH original six pack on MoFi as they are released! I had intended on doing this on Eddie’s birthday. But life doesn’t always work the way you want it to. Regardless, here we are. Happy belated birthday, Eddie. U2 - The Joshua Tree Continuing the night of U2. This is the album that really solidified me as a U2 fan. I was aware of some of the singles from previous album, but this was the first album that I listened to in its entirety. I then went back and got into the older albums. And then Rattle and Hum came out and I fell out of love with U2. Then Achtung Baby came out and I fell back in love with U2 and remained in love with them until No Line On The Horizon came out. It’s been a rollercoaster relationship between us, but I’m back…except for RnH and NLOTH. 😜 With or Without You seems like an appropriate song to describe my love of U2. The end of this song, when the guitar comes back in, is my FAVORITE moment on this album. It is so simple yet so brilliant. It makes me tear up when I listen to it.
